Jul 13, 2024 Well like I said, I think it's up for interpretation. Hence why you can think this way and I can think a different one. Because there wasn't a skit or a moment in which Marshall pulls out a gun and shoots Slim so we could conclusively say "yeah he died". He did this on purpose to test the waters, imho.
Jul 13, 2024 The PC, gen z and transgender stuff feels dated. He's at least 5 years late with that s---.
Jul 13, 2024 I hope this doesn't come off as bait, but I wouldn't mind if he retires after this one, and I like 3/4 of TDOSS not saying I definitely want him to retire, but if he feels like this is it, I think it's a nice closer
Jul 13, 2024 People say he pokes fun at easy targets and never makes fun of big figures… even tho his whole career is literally roasting the most popular celebrities and pop culture events of the time. Lol Will smith slap, P.Diddy bars, Meg foot bars… I mean who exactly do y'all even want him to diss at this point?! lol
Jul 13, 2024 On some real s---, I feel like he waited until nobody gave THAT much of a f--- if he went after certain demographics, if you're afraid or don't wanna do it just don't lol and the way he did it felt kinda forced at points, it drags out a bit, I really do feel like he doesn't know what Shady is, I know it's stupid to say cause he created the character but it does feel that way Y'all know that it's not that I wanted him to scream fa---- every 5 seconds, it's that I feel like he simplified the Shady character way too much if that makes sense "you f---ing do gooders, too bad you couldn't do good at marriage" is Shady s--- too, not just the slurs "Who Knew" for example as well It must come off as if I hate this album but I really don't, I like it a lot
Jul 13, 2024 Unless he comes up with something totally new I wouldn't mind it either. He's been rehashing a lot more of the same subjects in recent years.
Jul 13, 2024 No chance.. He’s not goin out as Slim Shady.. He gonna end it with his Eminem Show bag if he decides to make a final album.. If he does it’ll be promoted that way.. Not subliminal and up for interpretation..
Jul 13, 2024 Ok after few more listens I officially have it ranked number 5 on my list.. 1. TES 2. MMLP 3. SSLP 4. Recovery 5. The Death of Slim Shady
Jul 13, 2024 I've always thought Eminem will never retire. He'll still pop up every now and again for features. But when he does eventually release his final album (marketed as such), it'll be produced entirely by Dre.
Jul 13, 2024 This is what I thought MMLP2 was going to be like. Instead we got a bunch of random songs thrown together and the birth of his f---ing dogshit fast raps. TDOSS is a muah* chefs kiss. We needed it.
Jul 13, 2024 True. But Eminem could put out a f---ing official Documentary on Netflix and still put food on everybody's mouth. There're lots of things he could do in the future, besides making music.
Jul 13, 2024 A lot of people can't grasp that if Eminem can't recapture his old magic it's not because he's old and rich now, or because he became sober but because they often forget that he literally had to relearn how to rap from zero after his overdose, like they forget an overdose really f---s your brain up, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not that he's lazy but rather that he literally cannot write and flow as he did before, he lost it in the most literal way because of drugs and it's sad to think about it but also leaves you to think how drugs can f--- one's mind up
Jul 13, 2024 He used MMLP as inspiration to make MMLP2 and SSLP to make this project. The nostalgia is nice and cool but if he's not gonna add any new life experiences into his music I don't see the point. I think people would rather hear him rap genuinely about arthritis and being old at this point then bring up his overdose for the 12th time and rap to his daughter like she's 5. Or bash easy targets as mentioned.
Jul 13, 2024 I feel like he has matured a lot, became a lot wiser and has a lotta stuff to say still, but he just simply lost the way he had with words If you listen to Rock Bottom that s----s a poem over a beat, it's painfully beautiful, and I think he just doesn't have the same energy to express it, Revival would've been a much better album even with the features if he accepted his flaws, flowed more smoothly, had better production AND had his pen game as beautiful as some of his earlier songs, without the corny lines ya know
Jul 13, 2024 As it stands: TES: 10/10 Eminem at his peak. To this day I still hold this up as the genuine pinnacle of rapping and song crafting. Arguably my favorite album of all time. MMLP: 10/10 Total classic. There's not much more to be said. He showed his maturity and growth as an artist and solidified himself as the next phenomenon. SSLP: 9.5/10 This is in the upper echelons of rap debuts (If we pretend Infinite wasn't his real debut). Still a tier below rap masterpieces like Ready to Die, Illmatic, 36 Chambers, Reasonable Doubt etc., but deserves to mentioned in the conversion as a stunning career starter. Encore: 8/10 No album has grown on me quite like this one. Granted, this grade includes the bonus tracks. But considering they were intended for the album I think it's fair to include them. We still have prime Eminem on a lot of these songs. And his goofiness sounds so much better here than on his later works. Relapse: 7.5/ 10 Arguably his first concept album. Held up by strong production, and coupled with some classic songs, Relapse has aged well. That being said, it still has some real stinkers on it, and was a noticeable decline from albums prior. Deja Vu and Beautiful manage to recapture some of the magic, but still feel distinct from his former self. Kamikaze: 7.5/10 This album is held up by it's stronger songs. Fall and The Ringer are standouts, and we get Eminem's last good love song with Good Guy. As expected, we have some duds, but I stand firm that this was a surprisingly strong standout project in the midst of Eminem's "boring" phase. Recovery: 6/10 While some of Eminem's projects have gotten better over time, this one has faltered. What was once held up as a post prime classic, has deteriorated over time. The production is poor, and while there isn't so much in the way of "bad", there is a lot of "meh". Not an album I revisit often. MMLP2: 5.5/10 A project bookended by it's strongest songs, with some half decent bonus tracks and a couple of gems, but the name only draws attention to the fact it cannot hold a candle to the original. This was the project where we really started to get the boring songs. Even at his lowest on works like Relapse and Encore, his lesser songs usually gave us something. A funny bar or a good verse. However, the bad songs here are just uninteresting in the worst way. The Death of Slim Shady: 5.5/10 We'll see what time has to say about this project, but while there certainly are worthy highs on here, it's simultaneously packed with some of his most boring work to date, which has become more of an issue the later his career goes. The final third of the album contains retreads of old themes, but done much worse. Music To Be Murdered By: 5.0/10 Here we get Eminem doing his best to give us generic "contemporary rap", but only proves that that's not his element. This album feels like it was Eminem's attempt at trying to create a new lane for himself; one that would be his new normal. But his authenticity is at it's weakest. With the exception of maybe 2 or 3 songs across the double album, he never feels like himself. If you were to try and introduce Eminem to someone, this would be one of the last projects you would pick from. Revival: 2.5/10 Believe, Castle and Arose. The rest is a near comical assembly of some of the worst decisions he's ever made as an artist. The production is horrid, and it shattered his relationship with multiple producers. The hooks are awful for the most part, and his flows are a mess. Eminem was at his worst here, trying to appease people and failing on every front. Some of the worst raps he's ever spit.
