7 minute drill was actually a great response and a much better diss than Kendrick ever gave Cole with his cornball unwarranted jabs. With lines like “Dodge shells, collect coins like I'm Mario” none of this s--- is going over any actual real hip hop fan’s head, be real. The rhyme scheme carries this song. He’s not saying much of anything impressive or clever or substantive. There’s no deep layers to unpack here, dude. If anything, the flow being the same the whole song gets boring and annoying which definitely isn’t helped by the rhyme scheme everyone is gushing over. People saying this is verse of the year are out of their minds. Plus, I don’t know why y’all acting like 6/10 is a bad score, that’s literally above average.

I hope you know this is why Cole’s fanbase (not just his, a lot of rap fanbases are like this like Eminem’s) is looked at as cringe. Y’all act like you’re some highly intelligent beings that were born on some alien planet that taught the ancient arts of hip hop. It’s just embarrassing. Whenever someone criticizes a song and your go-to is “the bars went over your head” you are just confirming yourself to be the ultimate cringelord.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s some cool punchlines here and there in this song that casual rap or pop fans might not understand. But I’m not a casual. Some of y’all’s heads are in the cLOUDs for thinking this is the best song ever made. It’s fine if you like the song, but d---.

Never said this was the best song ever made or some deep thought process you gotta go though but you called it a 6 lol. On the first few listens you wont be able to catch everything is what i meant but the bars go crazy, the rhyme scheme goes crazy, and the flow is insane, and how he connects concepts and the wordplay is top tier. So if you fail to recognize that its comes off as hater-ish or means you didnt bother to listen... or as Cole would say, "you hated it before you played it, i already forgave you."

As for your other statement, i dont really think that way, lots of rappers make great music, people have different tastes. For me, i ain't trying to spend a few days trying to study a song or album but i'm sure there are people out there like you who do. I dont think most Cole fans care that much about that s---, especially people in this thread. Cole fans just enjoy the music and a lot of peoples comments sound like hate more than actual fair criticism.

All good bro, maybe it's not your cup of tea, i remember you said you did like GNX so maybe that style of artistic rap is your thing, for me it's not. I'm more of a fan of MC's so Kendricks older music resonated with me more.
Outside of Reincarnated i like Clouds more than all of the tracks on GNX.

I disagree. It’s dope at first, but the fact that he didn’t switch the flow up after a while as well as not having many bars that really impressed me kinda bores me after a while.

I don’t hate it though, I just don’t love it. I think he could’ve done better. I almost like the song, but he could’ve added more impressive bars, he could’ve switched up the flow, he could’ve added more of his personality to it. To me, this song really lacks his personality. I feel like this song could’ve came from almost any rapper and it wouldn’t make a difference. There’s nothing uniquely J. Cole about it.

It’s a lyrical exercise type of song but he’s already made that type of song in a better way like on The Off Season. I like s--- off the off season way better than this. I’m not saying he has to make off season 2, I’m just saying that he’s done this better before. Maybe not a better rhyme scheme, but he was overall more entertaining before. Just because I don’t love this song doesn’t mean I’m a Cole hater. I just think he can do better and I want to see him do better.
