At the end of the day, isn’t the message that the cream rises to the top, and the best music is ultimately released?

Aside from the genuinely interesting Ja Rule/Suge diss, everything else either deserved to be shelved or was ultimately reworked and released in some form.

Given the bonus songs we got on the re-release of the Eminem Show, I don’t think the Shady archives have a whole lot to offer. Sure, I’d love to get an official remaster of the Invasion mixtapes, including The Sauce and Nail In the Coffin, but that sort of thing isn’t happening without Marshall’s direct involvement and blessing.

Same goes for Dre‘s vault — I’d love for the unreleased Detox beats to be released, but without Dre imparting his mastering genius, why bother?

No lol. The Relapse songs are better than a good chunk of the released Relapse material, Marshall Powers would have been a highlight on Kamikaze, Seasons >>> LTWYL, and even Antichrist '05 and Follow Me are pretty good for their era(s).

Eminem should thank his lucky stars he couldn’t clear that sample and had to release LTWYL instead. Seasons sounds like an inferior side B of Where I’m At, while the impact of LTWYL on Eminem’s post-hiatus career can’t be understated.

A fair chunk of the recent leaks were shelved for reasons other than quality, so no I don't think the message is that the best music makes it out. Similarly, the deluxe editions of albums have been consistently lazy as f---, so I don't think they're good indicators of what exists either.

It does seem as if Em has been reaching back more often than expected, so he's probably pissed to have lost more demo's with potential. That said, reworking these songs isn't necessarily for the best, or making better versions. This leak has reminded me that an officially released Eminem "Lost Tapes" is probably never going to happen just because there's basically nothing 'safe' for him to release.

The sneer quotes around "safe" are definitely justified here. According to Strange, MP was supposedly that scrapped Kamikaze song that according to Dre "went too far". What exactly went too far, Em saying he would have himself tied up and pegged with a broom handle? ..

It was the only song he recorded with Dre for the album, the whole thing was recorded within 3 months and only scraps were left over. That has to be the song that went too far, there is no other full song from the Kamikaze sessions.

Take It was considered for The Eminem Show Expanded.

There is a skit that was supposed to play before Ricky Ricky Toc. Songs called Stand By Me and Esteem were recorded for Encore. Stand By Me sample couldn't be cleared. Also there are other 4 songs recorded with Dre for Encore.

The MMLP2 version of Antichrist sounds very similar to the song So Much Better. The Relapse version only had a few lines with accents and was considered for the Relapse Deluxe version before being pulled at the last minute. Careful What You Wish For's Relapse version had rerecorded vocals. There are multiple versions of My Mom, 3AM, Bagpipes from Baghdad.


I don't believe there probably is 100 songs for Recovery and 100 for MMLP2 but when you see how quickly they were recorded I think it might be more quantity than quality. Everything else? Id be surprised if there was more than 100 songs from every other album combined.

When you see how Stepping Stone was started in 2002 along with No Apologies and the multiple versions recorded, Antichrists first recorded in 2003. He clearly has good ideas but it takes him years to execute them. I think what we get on the albums really is the best of what's there.

• Even Discombobulated was a beat from 2007 that was then worked on for Relapse and was rejected. It wasn't created during the original Relapse Session. The version that leaked called Back and Forth was recorded in June 2009 and that too got rejected for Relapse 2 and then that got resurrected for MTBMB Side B. That's a thing people might not realise. You don't know just how much power Dre has and Interscope have. Just using that song as an example, how many of those hundreds of songs recorded for Recovery and MMLP2 got rejected because Dre or Interscope didn't like them?

I think fans need to get it out their heads that the vaults are filled with classic tracks and it's all a big plan to hoard them until he retires. We have the best of what's there. Some stuff that might be good just can't get out because of sample clearances.
