    The last round had me listening to a Rakim album and skimming through a few others from artists featured on the mixtape. Ended up finding some more great tracks.

    Will submit a review for the jank album shortly.

    Favorites:
    Cambodia, Renegade, Express Yourself, D'evils, Hip Hop Hooray, Torn

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING:
    7/10

    I like the mixture of rap, rock, and pop on this tape. It’s always interesting to see the approaches to these tapes and whether they’re all the same genre or have more genre variety. Covering all 3 decades in this tape is impressive as well. In a way, you can really flex your knowledge with this.

    I’ll get the negatives out of the way: there are certain songs that just do nothing for me. Looking for the Next Best Thing, Beautiful Loser, Nur geträumt, and The Gambler fit into this category. It’s not that they’re bad songs, in fact they are “good” songs. It’s just that they don’t excite me, don’t move me, don’t resonate with me, and I have no desire to ever listen to these songs again. In a world with so much music out there, this is an important factor to keep in mind. Sometimes it’s not enough to just be “good”.

    One thing these tapes have showed me is I’ve heard A LOT more music from this era than I thought I did, I just didn’t necessarily have the ability to name the songs or artists off of the top of my head. I’ve heard a vast majority of these songs. However, Cambodia was the nice surprise and biggest highlight for me on this mixtape. It’s one of the few songs on here that I’ve never heard, and I really enjoyed it. It was so great it got me a tiny bit emotional even though I’m feeling very cold-hearted today. That second verse really got me there.

    Most of these other songs are great I just don’t have a whole lot to say about them tbh. One song I do wanna mention though is Torn. I love this song and am so glad it was on the tape. It’s one of those songs I heard a long time ago and completely forgot about but in the dark, almost inaccessible corners of my mind it still slightly existed. It’s like I unlocked a new section of my brain again. I know I’m not overwhelmingly positive about this tape so that’s why it’s not 10/10, but 7/10 is still a good score. There are a bunch of songs I don’t care about but it’s still a good tape nonetheless. @AOTWClub

    Jankland - I forgot the name of it

    Great dancing playlist, with some peak Rnb cuts. Nice theme and really well put together. I enjoyed it a lot even though it's not really the type of music I usually listen to.

    9/10

    Not sure my effort for these review can get any lower, soon I will just be posting scores.

    @AOTWClub

    Really solid 80s mix. Not my usual go to, but I like EDM and a lot of EDM tracks sample classic 80s music. This one is a good example.

    Hearing the original on this mixtape took me by surprise.

    Rhythm of the Night is so good, man. Never gets old. Time After Time, another classic. Plus a bunch of tracks I hadn’t heard before.

    Not much else to say. Great tape. My favorite tracks were Rhythm of the Night, Only Time Will Tell, Time After Time, Be My Lover, Smalltown Boy

    Jankland - A Night @ S80

    Dude this was pure nostalgia. People who say nostalgia isn't good can s--- a big giant d-ck because I love it.

    Its so funny hearing some songs on here, mostly recognizing them because they are covered or remade somehow. Like Rhythm of the Night that had a pretty good BEP/J Balvin version later. Nothing beats the OG though. Funny seeing Only Time Will Tell by Asia here, I had Heat Of The Moment on my list but had to scrap it. They are on the same album lmao.

    This truly has a night of going out in the 80's feeling, dance/pop mostly. Partyman hellyes!

    Imagine going to clubs hearing these songs instead of Carti or the Amigos.. what a time :emoji_slight_frown:

    The Luther Vandross song I'm not a huge fan of, same as Plastic Love.

    Remember Summer Days is going straight to my summer playlist.

    Smalltown Boy, hey that is where Ed Sheeran has the sample from! Didn't know this song.... forgot what Ed song it is too lmao.

    My Flame / Hounds Of Love not really my thing either but doesn't make them bad songs.

    This is more a live reaction (after 3 listens) @jankland than an actual review but I got excited listening to this!

    Solid s--- bro and again lots of new stuff to my 'canciones que te gustan' playlist!

    @AOTWClub 8/10

    Michael Myers - Section 70-80-90
    [IMG]

    Michael Myers disappeared into thin air as soon as he was faced with the greatness of Playboi Carti's MUSIC. My first thought was that Busta Rhymes encountered him again, but eventually I received a PM that said the following:
    "Section 70-80-90"
    It was time to make the voyage into the Section Eighty, and I of course, annotated a track by track
    1. Riding’ The Storm Out- Pretty good opener!!!
    2. Looking for the Next Best Thing- DOn’t have much to say, but its a good track as well.
    3. Cambodia- Not really my thing, but its fine.
    4. Simple Man-this song kicks a--- man
    5. Otherside- This might be surprising, but I’m not really familiar with the RHCP at all, aside from knowing that they exist. The track was pretty good though, and I might check out their stuff at some point.
    6. Renegade- This song was always on repeat during the GTA 4 DLC’s so it’s basically been engraved in my mind. Still great!!!
    7. Express Yourself- A highlight from SOC, although it’s really funny to hear Dre talk about how weed gives you brain damage considering that 2/3 of his solo records are so explicitly weed-centered.
    8. Beautiful Loser- This song was a new discovery for me, and I really enjoyed it!!!
    9. House of the Rising Sun- I mean, it’s one of the best songs ever made, there’s not much I can really say besides that.
    10. Nur geträumt- Good track although I prefer the Nina track from MM’s previous tape a bit more.
    11. You Can’t Always Get What You Want- Classic track once again. I’m usually used to hearing this song as a closer, but I still think it works well with this placement. When that choir hits….d---.
    12. D’evils- Like MM, I’m a big Jay fan, so this track was an absolute treat. Premier absolutely killed that beat
    13. The Gambler- Didn’t love it, but it was decent.
    14. Hip Hop Hooray- Pretty fun track
    15. Torn- wasn’t too big on this one either :emoji_slight_frown:
    16. You Shook Me All Night Long-Classic track, and a great closer
    I really enjoyed my time with this tape. I wasn't too big on tracks 3,13, and 15, which brings down my score a bit, but i still had a lot of fun with the project as a whole. The run from "Simple Man" to "House of the Rising Sun" was especially great. Big thanks to @Michael Myers for the tape and yeah.
    FAVORITE TRACKS: Beautiful Loser, House of the Rising Sun, D'Evils

    @Michael Myers - Section 70-80-90 REVIEW

    Score: 9.4 (15/16)

    Another great tape with notable classics and a fun lineup. I'm starting to sound redundant with these reviews, but it's hard to not say this every time this round considering the theme! This tape had more of an emphasis on classic rock and country, with a dabble of hip hop, and the hip hop songs that were chosen were dope! Express Yourself and Hip Hop Hooray are obviously classics, but I had never heard D'evils before. I'll be honest, I haven't heard most of Jay's albums before (coming soon to my discog deep dive :emoji_wink: ), so it was nice to hear another cut off of Reasonable Doubt. It was also nice hearing a song from the Stones that I had never heard before. Overall, great tape from Mikey!
