I say we either do one or two rotations of albums then go to one or two rotations of tapes back and forth from now on. Gives time to decide more themes for the mixtape rotations.

Crazy that it's almost been a year, happy that this gives me something to look forward to every week especially during the slow times of the year.

    @Michael Myers - Section 70-80-90

    review

Mr. Myers comes through with a very solid mix. This playlist does a lot of things, this is best seen in the sequence on here where a Jay Z classic track follows up The Rolling Stones classic track lol. Pretty legendary.

The opening song, Ridin’ the Storm Out, was not one of my favorites but by third listen I grew to like it quite a bit. Those lyrics seal themselves inside your brain. This style in rock is easy to listen to.

The Warren Zevon song was a great listen for me and is where the mixtape truly started to kick a---. Zevon was such a good songwriter, this track is a gem.

Kim Wilde’s Cambodia is a fanstastic song too. The main melody is cool as h---. The whole track has the instrumentation of an old Roman Polanski movie lol. Also, she has a great voice, imo.

I don’t know a lot about Lynyrd Skynyrd but this song was pretty fire. This song is from the early 70s, like 50 something years old yet through it you can easily hear how influential this band really was for this genre. Pretty impressive track all around.

The Peppers’ song followed, not much to say here: this one is a classic. I’m sure this band’s music, along with that of other bands from this era, played a role in y’all’s (the club) history wih music, just like it did for me.

Styx’s renegade is an okay song. Has some really fun parts but I feel like each listen I’d be waiting to hear that one line that hit (the final verse for example)

Respect for the NWA pick. Great song, Dre slid on it. Always like hearing him spit, on newer s--- too.

Beautiful Loser was a pretty good song. Hard for me to not like a tune like this. Just quality all around, I appreciate the vintage sound with the tasteful pianos and how the energy here lies exclusively in Seger’s performance.

Impossible to miss with House of the Rising Sun. The track is as legendary as it gets. It’s become part of USA folklore (after all, the song itself is a folk piece from the early 1900s). Great singing and the insane story make it sound like a novel.

This is the second Nena song used by Myers and I loved both a lot. While Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann was a very spacy, luxurious song, Nur Geträumt is pure fun. No idea what the lyrics are about but I don’t mind. The song is infinitely catchy, those melodies are like crack cocaine and boy I’m hittin the pipe.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want is an all-time iconic song. This laid back sound always hits the spot. Love how lengthy and developed the song is. This is the ultimate ‘sing along-to’’ song for roadtrips and long drives.

As I said, I found the transition into Jay Z wonderful for reasons I cannot put in words. This is easily of my favorite tracks from my favorite Jay album. Hearing this track during my first listen to the mixtape immediately made me go and listen to Reasonable Doubt in its entirety. D’Evils is quotable as f---.

“We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew black-hearted.”

    So f---ing good.

I liked the story in The Gambler and found the song very compelling (could be cause I have a weakness for these country coded story telling folk tunes. I do feel like this song could’ve played to its strengths a bit more, though. A setup like this could’ve been expanded into an even stronger track.

Naughty By Nature’s Hip Hop Hooray was enjoyable, if slightly forgettable. I kept zoning out with this song being the background, or the soundtrack lol, to that. It did not grab me entirely but I cannot articulate why it’s so.

Loved Torn lol. Not something I’d listen to a lot of but I enjoyed my time with the song. Earcandy honestly, a product of its time. Natalie Imbruglia has a pretty killer voice, though.

As I said before, I have a strong dislike for AC/DC and had known that I’d dislike the closing song. I was right. I’m pretty repulsed by the band’s music. The vocals are like nails on chalkboard to me and the over-used anthemic guitar parts don’t help either.

Overall I loved most of the music on this tape and can say that I had a blast listening. There were some moments that I’d point out as a bit weaker than average, though. Mainly, Renegade, Hip Hop Hooray and, ofcourse, You Shook Me All Night Long. Still, those did not really hinder my enjoyment of this set of songs all that much. Many thanks to @Michael Myers for the mixtape and for putting me onto Nena. Gonna be going over her catalogue lmao.

    8.5/10

I feel like I haven’t given a score below 8 in months but man! Everyone’s tapes were just that solid! General music taste in this club is immaculate.
(Props to everybody, forreal. Heres to many more years of this!)
