May 27, 2025 at 12:44 PM Evad - Evad’s Time Capsule Favorites: So Fine, It Was A Good Day, Nuthin' But A “G” Thang, Gangsta’s Paradise, Dear Mama, Miss Misery RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 10/10!!!!!!!! This is gonna be a short review. Just about all of these are classic songs my grandparents played as a kid that I’ve heard all my life. The song I appreciate most on here is “So Fine” by Howard Johnson since it’s the one I’ve never heard. This song got me feeling sexy. s--- got me unlocking new dance moves I like how clever the opening and closing tracks are. “Play That Funky Music” is a great opener as Evad, a white boy, proceeds to play us funky music on this mixtape. And of course the ending track being called “Exit Music (For A Film)” is self-explanatory. Maybe this isn’t a mixtape, maybe it is indeed a movie, maybe it’s even… @AOTWClub

May 27, 2025 at 1:43 PM @AOTWClub Big Monkey's Micro Penis Review: Much like the last mixtape, most of the music here isn't what i'm used to. But that's the beauty of this club. Starting with the negatives. Songs like Hejira and Carpet of the Sun honestly sounded like something my grandma might’ve listened to. However, the mixtape picked up in the second half. I enjoyed tracks like Spirit Slips Away, Dancing Madly Backwards, Easy Living, and Love Like Blood. Those had a lot more energy and style that clicked with me. So while it got off to a rough start, I ended up enjoying a good chunk of it by the end. 7/10
May 27, 2025 at 2:06 PM @Allis Mines - Big Monkey’s Micro Penis review In the second installment of his cabinet of Big Monkey’s sexual obscenities, Allis shows up with a great mix of some pretty moving and profound songs. This tiny c--- ballad opens up with a seriously beautiful song, Hejira by Joni Mitchell. Hadn’t heard this one before but its 6 minute runtime went by like it was seconds. Great, haunting instrumental and her voice rocks. Loved how the first track established this slightly acoustic atmosphere which was then pushed further with Big Star’s Thirteen. This song was cool but not really one of my favorites. Carpet of the Sun was great, no complaints at all. Great song, an absolute knockout. The Rennaissance song kicked off this really consistent run of tracks. Ophelia, Barstool Blues, and Charlotte Street are all so easy to listen to and just pleasing to the ears all around. Especially Charlotte Street which pulled me in instantly and is one of my favorite discoveries on here. Five-O is no exception to this either. Great, easy on the ears music that I’ll be happy to listen to whenever it comes on. A lot of the songs on here have instrumentals that are at first glance simple but are in reality very complex and take a few listens to appreciate fully. It is impressive that songs that are this laid back reach such levels of complexity. Captain Beyond’s Dancing Madly Backwards was a dose of energy, a subtle hit of this mixtape’s crackpipe. I interpret it as the poor victim of the micro penis getting hooked on the crackrock and realising his s--- is now both limp and microscopic. A true modern drama. The song’s fine but not entirely my thing. Easy Livin is entirely my thing, though. That riff is pretty hard and makes the whole song pop. The vocals are very interesting too. The Thin Lizzy song was a good cut, not a standout for me but a quality song that helped keep the tape consistent. Love Like Blood by Killing Joke is one of my favorites on here. Love everything about it, kinda jealous I did not find the song in time to include it on my tape. The Sparks song is amazing, crazy that it is from the 70s. s--- is way ahead of its time. Going to be replaying this. Sylvian’s Nostalgia is a pretty ethereal song. This is how music sounds to me when I’m falling asleep with my headphones on. Enjoyed this a lot. Tinseltown in the Rain is a cool song, but one I will need to give more listens. On first listen I found it kind of tedious but on the second and third it slowly started to click. There is a lot to unpack from that instrumental. River of Deceit is a song that I had actually heard before. Love it, 10/10. Impeccable vibes. Great closer with The Light is Always Green. A very tasteful tune that made me feel nostalgic for whatever reason. All around, had a lot of fun with this tape. This thing was so easy to listen to and proved to be a great soundtrack for a very busy week. I appreciate the musical respite that this collection of songs was. 9.5/10 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau

Solid tape, liked every track and some standouts include Hejira, Charlotte Street, and The Light Is Always Green. May 27, 2025 at 5:29 PM @jankland Ty for clearing that up @Yeez @Ripper Roo Thank you Yeah I wasn’t trying to go for anything underground or off the radar, just songs I enjoyed growing up and have everything transition smoothly. If we did a strictly a 90’s tape in general I’d definitely take a different approach as I know that era way better and it’d be super fun
May 27, 2025 at 5:30 PM I’ve seen the words Big Monkey's Micro Penis so many times on here I might have to review it
May 28, 2025 at 3:56 PM @AOTWClub Evads Time Capsule Review Great tape. I really enjoyed almost every track on here and knew most of them. If I had to nitpick, I’d say the number of massive hits. Billie Jean, It Was a Good Day, Nuthin’ But a G Thang, Dear Mama, Gangsta’s Paradise (RIP Coolio) makes it feel a bit like a greatest hits collection at times. Honestly, I ended up skipping some of those just because I’ve heard them so many times. There’s not much to add about these legends. Dear Mama shows you don’t need a thousand syllables to write a masterpiece. Nuthin’ But a G Thang is a track that defined an entire era. Billie Jean is one of the first songs that come to mind when you think of MJ. Both Nirvana songs are great. From the songs I haven’t heard before, the one I enjoyed the most was Jungle Love. Great track, saved to my library. 9/10
May 28, 2025 at 3:59 PM d---, you went your whole life without hearing Jungle Love? That’s gotta be pretty rare. I feel like I hear that all the time on classic rock stations and in movies and s--- like that lol. But yeah, great song for sure, must be nice to hear it for the first time
May 28, 2025 at 4:03 PM We just have different experiences lol if it wasn’t for my grandparents spamming the classic rock stations when I was a kid I probably wouldn’t have heard it either
May 29, 2025 at 2:53 AM @Justin Trudeau @AOTWClub Big Monkey's Micro Penis (8--D): iirc this is your first submission that's not explicitly hip-hop which is kind of a flex cause this tape is great! Hejira is a great start, I got a little more into the Carole King lane of singer songwiter music but I've been meaning to listen to more Joni Mitchell some other songs from her played after the Playlist ended and I ended up saving those as well. Great lyrics and a calming tone. Thirteen is also great, goes for the whole tape but I like the folkiness of it, been loving that kind of music as of late. Not familiar with Big Star but color me intrigued! Carpet Of The Sun is fun, more uptempo but still keeping in line with the serene nature of the songs so far. I been going on lot of long walks lately now that the weather is good and can see this and many other songs here being a good companion to those time sinks. Ophelia is f---ing great, I love everything I've heard from The Band. Something about their guitar tones and the singer really hits my brain the right way. One of my favorites for sure. Idk what it was but Barstool Blues didn't click with me on first listen to this playlist but on subsequent run throughs I ended up really liking it, feels stupid to say cause it goes without saying but Neil Young sounds great here. Charlotte Street is super solid as well, adds a bit more flavor of 80s musical styling to the tape in the melody especially. Really good placement as a but of a pace breaker while still keeping in line with the rest of the songs. Five-O dragged a tiny bit for me but still liked it, the build up with the lyrics on top of the drums is really well executed and I can see myself liking this one even more on future listens. The instrumental breaks are very good Dancing Madly Backwards is a personal favorite on here, not familiar with Captain Beyond but I love basically everything about this track. I want to articulate it more but I really can't, just hit on every level for me. Easy Livin' is another one that grew on me, didn't click with me immediately but now i enjoy it when it comes on. Usually not my exact style of music I'd go to immediately but I still have nostalgia for this sound from the stuff my parents would play, I can see my brother really liking it. Spirit Slips Away is awesome, another favorite for sure. Thin Lizzy always f---s and I've always ado6re the singers voice. That is all. Love Like Blood was another good pace breaker, in a similar fashion to Charlotte Street, could copy and paste everything I said about that track there which is a compliment! This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us is the only songs that isn't exactly for me, it's nowhere near bad just not something I'd go back to. Its executing what it's going for very well and I dig the guitars tho. Nostalgia is a good contemplative track, another good placement on a song on the back half. Slowing down a bit was a good call, love the jazzy vibe to the instruments. Tinseltown In The Rain is great, big fan. I've realized a big recurrence of what makes this tape work for me is good melodies/delivery and this has it in spades, the instrumental is incredible as well, Kate Bush esque in some moments I really love it. I think Layne Staley was one of the best voices in grunge and I believe you can make a strong case that AIC is the greatest band in the genre so it makes me upset that I've somehow never heard of Mad Season, this song is incredible but I expect nothing less from the people involved. Hit me like a truck getting my favorite song on the tape as the last song. Good s---. Favorites: Thirteen, Ophelia, Dancing Madly Backwards, Spirit Slips Away, Tinseltown In The Rain, River Of Deceit RATING 9.5/10 (CLOSER TO A 10 THAN A 9)
