Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot… The Son of Chico Dusty

Decent project but nothing I would listen to again, not really much to say about the project it self. I had a really a hard time reviewing this because if you compare it to an Outkast album, they are all like 5 times better. This would be a 2/10 compared to them as they are mostly 10/10 albums. On normal scale though I would give this a 5.5/10. If I never heard an Outcast album before I would probably rate it higher but pretty much the whole listen I was thinking I would rather be listening to an Outkast album rn.

    5.5/10

Which OutKast albums would you rate a 10? If you say Speakerboxx, I might have to question your taste.

(The forum kept going out of service while writing, so I apologize for the wait)
There are many artists that have widely agreed upon "best albums". Most people say that Illmatic is Nas' best, Daft Punk's is Discovery, and so on. But some artists have multiple candidates for this title. Whether it be Pink Floyd or David Bowie, many artists have multiple albums that can be considered their best. And when it comes to one of the most beloved bands ever, I certainly have a favorite.

My fourth pick for AOTW Club is....

The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)

The Beatles, also known as the White Album has to be one of the most fascinating records ever made. As the band's ninth record, The Beatles is a postmodern work who's production essentially led to the band's breakup in 1969. The White Album also serves as the defining point where the Fab Four really started developing into their own solo artists, which means that the songs attributed to each Beatle can be radically different from one another. The record encompasses the political turmoil that permeated throughout 1968, and it arguably serves as the band's most political album, to the point that Charles Manson believed that the record was an apocalyptic message (This is how I feel about Revival btw)

The album's variety makes it a bit divisive, as even though it contains absolutely classic tracks like "Where My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Blackbird" and "Revolution 1", it also has some some questionable pieces like "Wild Honey Pie". I think that viewing The Beatles as a stream of creativity definitely helps the experience, and the innovations in genres like blues (Yer Blues), Heavy Metal, (Helter Skelter) sound collages (Revolution 9) make the White Album one of the most influential records ever made. It is a tad bit long, but I hope that everybody enjoys the experience.

The WHITE album?!? Oh great, just what we needed, white supremacist music. First it was Silver Jews and now it’s The WHITE power album!!! So much racism in this group.

Sir Lucious Left Foot…The Son Of Chico Dusty - Big Boi REVIEW

    Score: 7.0

    Review:
I enjoyed this a decent amount! The production on some parts weren’t for me or felt dated (granted, this album is 15 years old now) and some of the features didn’t really do it for me (Yelawolf’s comes to mind even though I am a fan of a good amount of his stuff). There were some great highlights on here though, like the first two tracks, alongside Shutterbugg and Shine Blockas. Entertaining album and not a bad listen, just wish washy and parts and nothing mind blowing to me.

thanks for the pick @Wreckless !

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot…The Son of Chico Dusty

    review

First time listening to a Big Boi solo album and the thing pretty much sounded like I expected it to. Even though a lot of hiphop from the late 2000s has some weird production choices and beats that aged a tad bit poorly, those did not really stop me from enjoying my time with this project. Truthfully, some of the skits and the wannabe cinematic moments that sound pretty aged and corny proved themselves to be pretty entertaining after a few listens - but not for reasons that Big Boi had probably intended lmao.

The album is most definitely a product of its time in this regard, but that does not make it bad by any means.

There are a ton of songs on here that go pretty hard; with the first 5 songs being my favorite. Daddy Fat Sax is a very fun track that I grew to enjoy a whole lot, especially its second part and the way the song develops.

Turns Me On is very soulful, I like the production and how the melodies play out. The flows are very catchy; a great listen for sure !

Follow Us took a few listens to click, mostly cause the chorus sounded a bit awkward at first. Now it’s stuck in my head and I like it a lot. Shutterbug is probably the best song on here. It is a very creative song, that beat is a true headnodder. The writing is pretty great too.

General Patton is a hilarious track. This is what I meant when I said ‘wannabe cinematic’. The f--- is that battle of Waterloo type beat loool. s--- has been cracking me up for days. Bro rapped over the siege of Troy.

Tangerine and You Ain’t no DJ are my least favorite songs on this project. Found them pretty tedious to listen to. The hook on Tangerine was annoying and Yella’s verse on You Ain’t no DJ did not come close to hitting for me.

Hustle Blood is a pretty great track, I enjoyed it. I like the girl vocalist’s voice and what it adds to Foxx’s parts. No complaints here. Really loved what Janelle Monae did on Be Still, too. It is some relaxing stuff.

Fo Yo Sorrows and Night Night were just okay, if not a bit repetitive. Got a bit tired of these after my third listen to the album. The production is kind of uninteresting, the bars don’t do much for me, and neither do the flows.

Loved Shine Blockas and Gucci Mane’s verse! Fantastic track overall.

Back Up Plan was decent enough, but I really disliked Theme Song. Such an awkward track that sounds like someone playing around with voice effects.

The deluxe version of this project wraps up with the Shine Blockas Remix which is as cool as the original is. Liked it as a closer.

Overall, I had fun with this album. Listening to this made me wanna bring back the BlackBerry and the velour tracksuits. s--- really did transport me back to 2009.

Thanks for the pick man @Wreckless! I respect the decision to select an album like this; a lot of the late 2000s stuff gets overlooked and isn’t as represented or analysed as much anymore!

    7/10

As a huge Beatles fan I’m stoked for this pick! Not my favorite record of theirs but it will be so fun to review.

The tricky part is relistening in a vacuum outside the rest of their discog.

    Yall ever heard White America?!
I ended Racism for Eric and little Erica.
I taught Boston parents how to raise them.
I took AK’s to the KKK,
    gave the NRA some Wu-Tang
And that’s how I made an entire
    generation appreciate N.W.A.
Just Ask Dre, who signed a white boy in 98’. Who had Kanye re-write his essays?!
Who gave 50 the green light to retaliate? Guess I am
using my white privilege to masturbate.
But it was Dre’s right hand that sent the Demo tape
