Jun 10, 2025 at 8:33 PM I always like to check out the records during the week I picked them so that they're fresh in mind, and holy s--- I forgot about how strange Wild Honey Pie is lmao.
Jun 11, 2025 at 5:30 AM Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot… The Son of Chico Dusty I listened to the first few songs the other day and was honestly surprised people gave this ratings like 5 or 6. But having listened to the whole project, while I still think its better than that I do understand. The quality kinda drops for me as well later on. Lets go to the songs: Feel Me: nice little intro, gives me a little Daft Punk vibes. Not gonna rate this though. Daddy Fat Sax: f---, the energy here. Love BB's flow and the beat is awesome. Wish it had a more enjoyable hook instead of a sample but overall this is fire! 9/10 Turn Me On: love the jazzy vibe here. It's smooth as h---, hook is catchy and again dude flows like water. 9/10 Follow US: can't really add more than what I said about the song before. Just wanna add this beat is so d--- good too aside from loving the hook. 9/10 Shutterbug: nice fun upbeat song. I can vibe to this! Not much else to say. 8/10 General Patton - yeah this beat is a bit annoying to me. Kinda nice the haunting vibe and he raps well but it gets annoying to me quick lol. 6/10 Tangerine - always love to hear T.I. beat is really smooth and I like the verses a lot, but the hook annoys the f--- out of me lmao. 7/10 You Ain't no DJ - yeah.... well this beat. Keep. Like both BB and Yela here but beat is unlistenable to me. 5/10 Hustle Blood - I do like this one! Watched Django Unchained the other day, almost forgot the dude also performed as a singer. Dope hook, good production and yeah BB can flow thats obvious. 8/10 Be Still - this is not my thing. Usually I like a female singer / rap combo but not feeling this hook at all. And the beat is just, meh. 4/10 Fo Yo Sorrows - hook is so catchy one of the best on the album. Can't say much more, good song. 8/10 Night Night - BB raps his a--- off, BOBs hook is nice. Beat during the verses annoys me a bit sometimes but overall dope song. 7.5/10 Shine Blockas - yeah love this. Gucci also kills it. I just hate that little sound effect thats used more often in music (can't describe it, during the hook). 7.5/10 The Train p2. - great song. 8/10 Back up Plan - hook is awful lol. Fun beat though overall okay song. 6/10 Theme Song - yeah this is the sound of the first few songs again! 7.5/10 Shine Blockas remix - nice verse from Bun B so I like this better than the first one. Could have just used this one though. 8,5/10 Average 7.4 but adding the nice intro I'll round this up to a 7.5. Nice album! @Wreckless @AOTWClub
Jun 12, 2025 at 12:10 AM @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot… The Son of Chico Dusty Didn't get as much time with this as I wanted due to some different stuff popping up throughout the week so this is gonna be a shorter review but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would considering the other reviews. Getting the cons out of the way I'll say some of the production didn't really work for me, this Era of southern music is super hit or miss in this department for me in general so it's not a surprise but then there's s--- that's bad like General Patton that's so silly it almost wraps back to being enjoyable in the 2nd half. Another negative is heavily dependent on what mood you're in but a lot of the subject matter is super samey and not very interesting other than a song or two, wasn't too detrimental to my experience but was glaring. As for the positives I loved the flows and delivery in general which shouldn't be surprising considering who's album it is. Features did their thing, the Vonnegutt feat is do f---ing weird that i kinda love it? Overall a smooth listen that i thought was paced pretty well and didn't feel like a slog to get through which it could have been. Putting this in pros and cons is funny but some beats were fun, Turns Me On really worked for me for example. In terms of a full experience I'd describe the project as vapid but entertaining and fits very well with this time of the year for a fun listen! Favorite Songs: Daddy Fat Sax, Follow Us, Hustle Blood, Be Still, Night Night, Shine Blockas Least favorites: General Patton, You Ain't No DJ RATING 7/10
Jun 12, 2025 at 12:11 AM Thanks for the pick @Wreckless! was factoring me probably not going back to it much in my score but it doesn't change the fact it was a fun listen! Been away from strictly rap for so long in here that it was nice to go back
Jun 12, 2025 at 2:14 AM The Beatles - The Beatles (The White Album) Favorites: Back in The U.S.S.R., Glass Onion, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness Is a Warm Gun, I’m So Tired, Blackbird, Julia, Birthday, Yer Blues, Sexy Sadie, Helter Skelter, Revolution 1 (more than doubled my usual 6 favorites since this is a double album) RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 8/10 I’ve never had a lot to say about The Beatles. Some people say they’re overrated, some people say they’re the greatest band ever. Me personally I don’t have a super strong opinion on them either way, but I do usually like the songs I hear from them. This is super zoomer and cringe but, although I had heard their songs in passing before, my first real exposure to songs from The Beatles was when Big Time Rush decided to cover songs from The Beatles lmao. With all that being said, this album is great. The fact that this is from 1968 is so crazy because this doesn’t sound aged at all, it fits right in with what I’m used to hearing. I think that just goes to show how experimental and influential this album and the band in general was. Even though The Beatles aren’t a band I regularly listen to and probably still won’t be after this, I can still recognize that this album is very good. Onto the negatives: the thing that brings this album down for me is that 4 track stretch of tracks 12-15 (Piggies, Rocky Raccoon, Don’t Pass Me By, Why Don’t We Do It In the Road?). While I don’t hate country or anything, the sound of these songs just do nothing for me. Plus, some of these lyrics are so ridiculously silly (not in a charming way either), especially on Piggies and Why Don’t We Do It in The Road lmao. I’m also not a fan of Wild Honey Pie, again the sound does nothing for me. Aaaaaaand Revolution 9 also does nothing for me. Like it’s really cool and weird and all that, but I’m probably never going to listen to it again and it didn’t add to my album experience. MFers knew I’d like Yer Blues. I gotta appreciate a suicidal song even back from 1968. Might have to add that one to the depression playlist. Sexy Sadie is dope too (shoutout Sadie Sink). The Beatles lyrics are just so unique man, there’s nothing like it. I know this is a 30 track album so it’s crazy that I don’t have more to say, but I really don’t tbh. I’m just not a big Beatles person, but this album is awesome and a dope pick. The Beatles definitely had to be picked at some point in this group. @AOTWClub
