Dec 17, 2025 at 8:42 PM We all know No Apologies. One of the all-time greatest Eminem songs for many people, myself included. While it was released in December 2006, it’s common knowledge that it was recorded in early September 2001 for the Eminem show (with a different 3rd verse, as per Joe’s claim and the actual 3rd verse sounding much more closer to ‘05 Em in both the vocals and writing imho). Take it was another song recorded for TES, although it was reworked a bit in 2008 and got leaked with a barebones beat. However, mongy discovered it to have hidden guitars in the mix (simply not hidden properly) due to them being from Jeff Bass (whose last sessions was for beautiful in April 2006). As per Joe Strange, this is allegedly due to pretty much robbing Em of his publishing rights with a ridiculous contract and Paul was the only one able to see it (it’s not confirmed if it’s exactly why, so I wont mention it anywhere else). The thought came to my head, and it made me wonder if NA could possibly also have something done by Jeff Bass that got hidden, although I’m aware it most likely didn’t. Jeff Bass had worked on just about every song for TES, save for the Dre tracks (obviously), always adding the guitar and usually the bass (although sometimes Eminem would do the bass, such as on take it, it was rare at that time). Jake Bass once said the reason Jeff didn’t work on encore was due to the birth of his other son, which is probably why he didn’t do anything for the last recorded song for TES (sayin goodbye to hollywood, which Steve King, who usually is credited as the mixer, does the guitar along with other future recorded songs). Square dance has Bass credits, and that was recorded in November 2001 (plus it had 9/11 references, so it’s impossible to have been made before NA), meaning Bass was still involved in the production after no apologies was finished. While the rest of TES era songs have many instruments: such as most songs having both guitars and pianos (the few that don’t just have guitars), no apologies is different. It’s a very simple drum beat with only a kick, snare and the odd hi-hat that simply loops throughout the whole track, but it just about works, along with the bass. The rest of the beat is pretty much carried by Resto and his melodic playing on his keyboards and strings. Luis Resto hadn’t done any solo production for Em (without Bass) before encore except for girls. Again, as I said, there’s most likely not anything Jeff contributed to that got hidden. I just thought of it a few minutes ago and wanted to see what other people think.
Dec 17, 2025 at 8:52 PM Jeff bass didn't do Till I Collapse, Halie's Song and When the Music Stops & Say Goodbye to Hollywood. So I can see he also wasn't involved with No Apologies.
Dec 17, 2025 at 10:18 PM Doesn't fit for TES, so I think he was right to leave it off, if it was made for that. Great song, but can't imagine it fitting on there. Might do though, as Cleanin' Out My Closet is a heavy piano driven beat and it works... dunno. Sounds more like after TES and before Encore to me, writing is a bit looser, not quite as sharp as 01 or 02, but not as silly or lazy as Encore. Also not sure what you hear that sounds like 05 Em in the third verse; sounds similar to the other two to me, in the writing and everything.
