Jan 11, 2026 at 12:58 PM Haunting of Hill House This was such a great ride. After being disappointed by Midnight Mass, and liking House of Usher a lot, I went in with doubts. Even if the story is obviously very different, it reminded me a bit of Dark. In a way that the characters never seem to ever catch a break. It's sad, sad and more sad. But also beautiful. Also liked that, unlike MM, it involved 'real' people. Not people who speak in poems, but regular people who say f---, g.d. and s---. Way more realistic to me. Spoiler I honestly thought the first half of the show was the best. I searched after I watched it and it seems like most people prefer the later episodes, but I loved how the first 5 episodes, the present time, showed us the same time period and story through the eyes of all siblings. It was mostly sadness/drama with a little horror but when at night in bed, it did haunt me more than most jump scare horror movies. Also great how they switched from past to present, to keep the story going and not dwell too much on things. Every episode also filled in some blanks from the one before. Very well done. I was kinda mad they killed off the heart of this show (Nellie). Sure it helps that the actress is cute as h---, but I also felt so f---ing bad for her character lol. Luke as well btw. Episode 5 broke my heart but was also the best episode imo by far. Learning that the ghost haunting her was actually a vision of her death was just... wow. After episode 5 there were the funeral episodes. This is where it did went a little Flanagan, with the long speeches and poem s---. But given the situation I didn't hate it and the Storm episode was great. 'I was right here... and you didn't see me' After 2 episodes of mostly family drama (great ones) with a little horror came the Halloween one. Pretty spooky, and I liked how Theo explained what happened after she touched (dead) Nell. Also learning that Shirleys 'ghost' was based on guilt, so good. The Olivia one was also very good, putting (almost) the final pieces together. Finale I did have some mixed feelings. To me it felt a little rushed, when it ended it left me wanting more lol. Some people were disappointed because there was barely any real revelation about the house, the ghosts etc. Honestly I am very happy they pulled a 'Lost' and focussed on the characters: it concluded their story, their redemption and bringing them back together. The sacrifice of the dad was sweet, and of course seeing Nell back was amazing I was so happy. Loved that scene and that she saved her brothers and sisters from their dream state. The time jumps did confuse me a little at times though. There aren't really any questions open for me, I don't care for the house why its haunted etc. the show made me care for the characters. And ofc we did learn some about the ghosts. There were a few scenes that were a bit too long and boring like when Olivia told that housekeeper about the rain.. typical Flanagan bs. But it never really bothered me. Giving it a 9/10 absolutely loved it thanks @jankland
