Other than curiosity for Coles album there's really nothing for me, last year was really good for me in terms of releases so I assume it's gonna be dry this year for stuff that immediately speaks to me.

I still gotta listen to the new Zach Bryan and I guess the Charli XCX Wuthering Heights soundtrack also counts

Michael Myers - A Late Night Drive
    No Playboi Carti?

Joking of course lmao. I was pretty excited to get into this tape by Myers. The idea of a Night Drive soundtrack sounded pretty interesting. I recognized a decent number of the artists on the tape too, which is always neat. So without further ado, I dove in

I have to admit that I wasn't that big a fan of "Heartbeat". It isn't bad, but it isn't really my thing. "All My Friends" is pretty fun, with a pretty good Chance verse (I should probably give Star Line a listen at some point tbh). I've never really gotten too into The Killers, but I thought "Shot At The Night" was pretty neat. Wasn't really a big fan of "Late One Night" sadly. The beat reminded me of the Christmastime LeBron Sprite Cranberry commercials

"Blue Moon" was pretty neat, and it's probably my favorite song up to this point. I'm pretty mixed on "Say Something". I think Drake does great, but the beat doesn't work for me sadly. "Run Away With Me" and "Backpack" were decent too.

The second half of the tape starts out pretty well with "Life on the Fast Lane". "Rewind" and especially "Actin' Crazy" were pretty d--- good. I'm usually not much of a RHCP guy, but "Soul to Squeeze" was pretty neat.
"Nights Like This" was pretty chill, and "Hellraiser" was f---ing awesome.
"Just Us" was a pretty good track, and I think the "Mrs. Jackson" sample was dope. SZA is great as always. "Street Lights" is a great closer. I'm a big fan of 808's in general, but this song has always just felt so sad, and it's great.

As a whole, I'm a bit mixed on Late Night Drive. There aren't any songs that I would say that I outright dislike, but a lot of the picks just aren't really my style. On the positive side, the songs that I enjoyed, were VERY good, so they're doing some heavy lifting. I do think that the second half is stronger then the first, but that's obviously up to interpretation. Still, big thanks to @Michael Myers for the tape, and yeah.
FAVORITES: Blue Moon, Life In the Fast Lane, Actin Crazy, Soul to Squeeze, Hellraiser, Just Us Street Lights
    Rating: 6/10

    @Wreckless - Distorted Reality

I haven't heard any of these songs that i know of beside the Superheaven one so that was exciting going into this

Untitled is a really good opener, ive heard of Interpol but never gave them a decent listen and i really loved it.

Not familiar with Katatonia at all but Dispossession is great, didnt like the vocals at first but it really grew on me with more listen and now i really like them. Dope instrumental as well

Hum is great, never heard this song but I can add if You Are To Bloom to the list of songs i like from them!

Wunderhorse is the biggest surprise of the playlist for me, love absolutely everything about Leader of the Pack and its probably my favorite from the playlist. Really catchy, good lyrics, love the vocals. Total package.

In The Mouth A Desert is a weird one for me, it doesnt hit me immediately but i still saved it cause i can see myself revisiting it when im in a specific mood and loving it, singer reminded me a bit of rivers cuomo.

The Perfume of Decay is great, guitar lick is crazy and it gives off a 2000s wrestling energy that i always jibe with. Ill need to check out Tigercub

Fine Again is also really good, Seether is a bit of a guilty pleasure from all the songs i heard from them. I love all the depressing music from this era even if it is melodramatic.

Don't know Tad but dig the vibe, its like a weird inbetween of grungier sounds and almost a metal riff. Very entertaining, can see my brother especially really liking this!

I'm biased towards everything Alice In Chains and AIC adjacent so i think Afterglow is f---ing incredible and another frontrunner for my favorite of the tape. Something about the feeling that Jerry and Layne are able to convey with their voices and lyrics has always been mesmerizing to me, arguably the greatest in the genre. Jerry is one of the absolute best to ever do it.

Speaking of being melodramatic, the entirety of Staind lmao. I think the lyrics are a pretty hamfisted to mixed results for me on Open Your Eyes but i still enjoy the sound! Guitar riff is great

Not too familiar with HIM but Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart is dope, Little Nicky soundtrack a--- song (complimentary).

At first I was surprised by two Wunderhorse songs but the vibes between the songs are so different that it fits perfectly, another great song for completely different reasons that Leader Of The Pack.

Superheaven is a g.d. cheatcode, I love their work but Jar in particular is an incredible album, love everything about their sound and No One's Deserving is a great pick!

I wish i liked Cenotaph more, I appreciate its theatricality in the verses but its the same thing that probably won't make me go back to it. Quite like the instrumental and chorus though!

Through and Through is cool, not something id go back to unless im in a specific mood but i dig the performance, its grown on me a lot in subsequent listens.

Never heard of Kylesa in my life but Dust was a cool closer, dug the vibe of it and it fits in really nicely with the rest of the tape.

All in all the last little leg of songs ended up losing steam a bit in regards to my personal preferences but this is easily my favorite tape of yours and of one of my favorite tapes so far in the club! Really well paced and structured.

Favorite Songs: Untitled, Dispossession, If You Are To Bloom, Leader Of The Pack, Fine Again, Afterglow, Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart, No One's Deserving

Glad you liked it, bud, Appreciate the track by track review. Cenotaph and Through and Through were late additions, kinda figured they wouldn’t be favorites. Cenotaph isn’t Nevermore at their best, but most of their catalog is way too heavy to fit the tape. Still a great band though. And yeah, 100% agree on AIC. Absolute legends.

Here's another Tigercub track since you mentionned wanting to check them out.

Wunderhorse is a fairly new band. Both songs are off the album Cub.
