I was cleaning the attic last night and came across something extremely spectacular.... my old Ouija board. So I wasted no time and got to it. After a few minutes I managed to contact a holy spirit... he said his name is @CSW and he had this to say. ...


well, i’ve watched the three guardians of the galaxy movies. i’ll start by saying it’s been one of the most beautiful spectacles i’ve ever witnessed in movie form. i also feel like i lost about 20 iq points in the process. but i did cry at least once. i really loved when they freed all the animals. overall the second movie was my fav though. saying this, all the plots are pretty paint by the numbers, just one mcguffin after another. but yet, somehow very entertaining. maybe in a so bad it’s good kind of way? lots of feel good moments that’s for sure. the soundtrack is um, interesting. i can see what he was going for, but it works better in both superman where the technique is more refined and in watchmen which feels like the inspiration. i can definitely see why wb wanted gunn to do all this, but superman. however i feel the style just doesn’t work as well with dc characters. which brings me to the absolutely inimitable zoe saldana. i love her character here, both versions of her, as i do in every movie she’s in, she’s the best part of the series and it’s easy to see why she’s the highest selling actor of all time. i will also say that i’m genuinely surprised and sort of taken aback though, by how many elements of these movies are literally copy & pasted to/from superman and the star wars sequels. again i can see why people like this, but i enjoyed the guardians movies a lot more than i enjoyed gunn’s superman. i hope supergirl is a stark departure from this style. i know it’s a different writer/director so i guess there’s hope. still, these movies weren’t as bad as martin scorsese says. they’re not on the same level to me as the tobey trilogy or the tdk trilogy or the iron man trilogy either though. a lot of it feels forced and contrived and the stakes feel very low and self contained. but i guess that’s inherent in a movie that takes place in infinite space as opposed to in one city. all in all pretty exciting and some great emotion. i’d watch a fourth one but i don’t think there are any sequels planned.
