Added sugar really is a silent killer. And in America d--- near everything has a ton of added sugar in it. Companies tried to suppress that and instead tried to blame it on fat so they could sell “low fat” products. Now that people are catching on to how unhealthy added sugar really is companies wanna sell us these products with all these artificial sweeteners, which are questionable themselves. More and more studies are coming out about the potential consequences of consuming too many artificial sweeteners. No wonder so many people are depressed and anxious, the foods they are consuming are slowly killing them.

They even add sugar to things that are already naturally very sugary like dates, raisins, and fruit juice, which should be illegal (or at least, such products should require a warning label on them much like the surgeon general's warning on cigarettes, let alone pure-poison products like Little Debbie snack cakes). The even bigger redpill for me was finding out that even the natural sugar in 100% natural fruit juice with no added sugar is little better for you than Coke in the scheme of things due to the absence of fiber to slow its digestion and increase insulin sensitivity. Also redpilling was learning that almost all store-bought bread or bread from restaurants, including fortified whole wheat bread, falls in the UPF category. I never thought I could live without bread and sugar but I've been avoiding both consistently for months now.

I'm still over 1 book a week and I'm now 18 months into that mission. Not bad going if I do say so!

But I read a load of drivel. Kindle Unlimited finest. Currently reading one of the many RJ Law series. I do like a crime thriller.

In the middle of Can't Buy Me Love by Jonathan Gould. It's a book all about The Beatles and I'm reading it for class, which is also all about The Beatles. A d--- good read so far, but I'd probably be more into it if it picked it up off the shelf myself instead of it being assigned reading haha

Notes from Underground & C&P are both so good! I read Brothers Karamazov too, but liked it less. I know this is an old thread, but did you ever check out White Nights? If so, how was it?

I also love Dream of a Ridiculous Man, but that's a short story, not a novel. Ever tried any Camus? The Plague, The Stranger?

Some of Dostoevsky is as re-readable as Kafka for me. I deeply identify with miserable weirdos, not sure what that says about me.

Most recently finished Gray Matters (Theodore Schwartz). I've been on a nonfiction bender for a while. Before this, Night (Elie Wiesl).

Great thread that needs to survive

I didn't check out White Nights, but I'm thinking of starting Demons sometime over the next few weeks.

I really enjoyed The Stranger, but I haven't checked out any Camus aside from that. THought about checking out the Myth of Sisyphus, but I know that it's very different.

Currently tackling Ulysses by doing a chapter a week. The Scylla and Charybdis chapter is in 2 weeks and I am not ready lmao

Def agree about the thread, I love to see what everybody is into!!

Ulysses, that's excruciating. Good luck with that! Is it for class or something, or are you just an overachiever/masochist by nature?

I’m mainly doing it for fun. I really liked Joyce’s other stuff, so I figured it was worth a shot. I don’t think I’ll be checking out Finnegans Wake anytime soon tho lmao
