no but if you know where to look there are places, such as the latters in those examples, that are beyond trump’s, or any president’s, reach. and there are those, like the formers, that are not. that’s no reason to discourage people from visiting what’s still the greatest country on earth

I suspect you just don't like looking ridiculous. I respond with a laughing gif -- same as I've done here for other responses that struck me as laughable. Somehow none of those gifs bothered your sensibilities, as you've "liked" them instead of insulting them.

Which explains your interesting response, retaliation for my basic disagreement. You seem to be challenging my personal identity. Why this is relevant I don't see, but yes, I was actually born with a uterus. Two X chromosomes.

Also yes, I've traveled and lived all over this country, including the minor borough you mentioned and random small towns in Florida. I've crossed the US multiple times on multiple 3,000+ mile road trips from coast to coast. I've visited every state at least once and I have family scattered all over the nation (and the continent) from Connecticut to Baja California, and Minneapolis. So, yes. I do, in fact, know what I'm talking about. I just disagree with you.

Your interpretation of an opposing view seems to be based on a supposition that I couldn't have come to my position without being ignorant of different "americana", because if I'd had the same exposure to our geographical range, surely I'd have to arrive at the same conclusion as you? Have you ever even been out of this country?

People can LIVE in the same city and have completely, utterly different experiences of the place. Are there insulated regions? Of course. Is that what people come from across the world to see? Our backwaters and regional secrets?

This country is in a state of crisis. Foreigners are not being treated well. International students with visas from the university where I teach are being denied re-entry after travel. If you don't see the crisis going on, chances are the chaos isn't affecting you or your family up close and personal. For me, it's impossible to deny every day. It's also terrifyingly underreported.

People are scared, and for very good reason. You do not need to feel personally diminished by the dramatically different experiences of a woman of color who sees your assessment of the country as comedy. You're just underinformed.

no, you sound extremely female. almost overly so. to the point several members thought/think you’re just saying what a girl might say. and again, you’ve a nasty habit of telling people how they feel when in reality you segued a perfectly civil conversation into a childish gif posting match at which point i called you out when i probably should’ve been the more mature one (as usual around here) and just asked what part of my post you found laughable. i’ve been to many countries and was born and raised in northeast philly. i’ve been in a relationship with a black girl, or “woman of color” as you seem to prefer to be called, for 16 years as i mentioned. i’ve seen all you’ve seen. no our country isn’t perfect but even with all the issues you described in your rather emotional post i stand by my assertion that we’re doing it better than anyone else
