May 27, 2026 at 5:45 AM You can tell multiple musicians worked on the album but the whole thing was pretty much made on the Korg Triton keyboard. It just shows you that you don't need million dollar studios and expensive instruments to make good music.
May 27, 2026 at 6:27 AM You can’t really just say the whole thing was made on the Triton lol. Yeah there were Triton sounds sprinkled throughout the production, but Jeff Bass’ Fender appears on a lot of the tracks (SFTM, Superman, COMC), plus there’s also live bass from Jeff and Mike Elizondo. They certainly weren’t done in cheap instruments. DJ heads drums also definitely didn’t come from the Triton. We know Ems vocals were all recorded on the Sony C800g too, which is like a $10,000 plus microphone. Not to mention the analogue gear on his vocal chain which would also be thousands. I agree that you don’t need lots of money to come up with good creative ideas and melodies, but you absolutely do need thousands and thousands of dollars to make that music sound professional during the tracking, mixing and mastering process. I’m sure Brian Gardeners mastering suite would also have been worth thousands at the time too. Resto also used more than just the Triton, so his keyboard setup wouldn’t have been cheap either.
May 27, 2026 at 6:29 AM It’s such a shame that Steve King died at such a young age. I would have loved to see him appear on something like Mix With The Masters, seeing him pull up one of Ems old Pro Tools sessions from the TES era, going through his own mix and how he did things. I guess the closest we could get is Mike Strange doing that since he was Steve’s assistant at that time.
