Dec 27, 2014 Notable Songs: 03' Adolescence No Role Modelz * I couldn't find any uploaded tracks that didn't have a messed up pitch, so just hit track 4 and 9.
Dec 27, 2014 For those of you who haven't heard 2014 Forest Hills Drive yet, don't let any of the emotional breakdowns you're going to witness in this thread put you off from the album. It's a solid project. It's not as good as Piñata or Run The Jewels 2, but it's pretty d--- good.
Dec 27, 2014 Been hearing a lot of good s--- about FHD but I tried listening to some SS and BS and I just couldn't get into it... Should I still peep this or nah?
Dec 27, 2014 I hate Sideline Story and Born Sinner, and I really like this album so yeah I would check this if I were you. But the thing is if you couldn't get in to SS and BS for the reason that you thought Cole was boring, you probably won't like this either. It's not for everybody, but its a d--- good album. SS: 6.3/10 BS: 5.7/10 FHD: 8/10
Dec 27, 2014 the reason FHD won is the timing JCN merged to s80 if it happened 3 months ago...FHD wont win good job regardless @Hasman
Dec 27, 2014 And the fact that its a pretty good album. It would have ranked 2nd without the merge (I deleted most of the JCN votes on the excel and that's where it fell). And the album wasn't out 3 months ago, it came out less than 20 days ago. But regardless, I'm very happy to say that JCN won.
Dec 27, 2014 Objectively speaking, I recommend anyone here to give Cole a chance on FHD which is by far his best retail album. The social commentary and his improving artistry are on display, he crafted some of his best hooks yet and with some outside help the production is also another highlight imo. Definitely not perfect but I'd say it's a solid effort and merits a place with the other albums on the list.
Dec 27, 2014 I agree with everything you said, I'd say it's his best work and I liked it more than I expected, but still... I wouldn't place it in my top 15-20 by any means. It's a good album from a year with quite a few excellent ones. Hopefully it'll be a trigger for more improvement by Cole, and that he'll be more consistent in the future. I'm not mad though, he has a few corny parts but the production is great, and he's rapped better than he did in BS generally. There are def a couple of highlights. Well organised thread, I've listened to a lot of hip-hop this year, and if people are interested in more good music, the "nominations" thread (and 2-3 older ones about this year's best rap) has a lot of gems that may have been overlooked. There are many albums that bring different things to the table, I can guarantee that every fan will find at least 2-3 records with replay value.
Dec 27, 2014 I like FHD it'd be some where in my top 20. Somewhere behind the ten different young thug projects, including mixtape of the year (rich g--- pt 1) that somehow didn't even make it anywhere near this list I'm out
