Jan 13, 2015 Agree with almost all of this. Bodie grew on me to an extent but not enough to get over how he killed Wallace. Wallace and D'Angelo's deaths were brutal.
Jan 13, 2015 I would have liked to see D'Angelo around longer. D'Angelo was spitting knowledge in every episode. Wallace was one of my favorites and it was pretty heartbreaking how he had to go.. Man I love The Wire. you can talk about it all day. I liked Bodie because he stayed real. He wasn't as hard as he thought he was, as evidenced in him not being able to finish off Wallace, but he definitely was more than a "typical pawn" imo. too bad that D'Angelo didn't smack Bodie around a little bit. Bodie would always mouth off to D'Angelo and disrespect him.
Jan 13, 2015 Had to stop myself from watching the 10 reasons for The Wire as I started watching it about 6 months ago but never really got through the first season. I felt it was a little slow and didn't grab my full attention. From the reviews by most of you guys though I have to go back and watch it again from the beginning.
Jan 13, 2015 Season 4 of the wire > any season on both shows but, the development of walter white/ heisenberg might be the greatest character development ever. Its tough to choose really, but in the end i gotta take breaking bad. The climax of this show with ozymandias (imo the best episode of tv ive ever seen) is too high of a ceiling to reach. Breaking bad also had a better ending than the wire imo
Jan 16, 2015 just realized Bubbles sister was the nurse that cuts Cutty up for being a "gangster" and then is with him at the end of season 4 lol theres always new interconnected stories that I catch everytime I rewatch a season
Jan 16, 2015 Yep, caught that on the rewatch also. This is what I'm talking about, there's always all of these hidden gems that you end up noticing on a rewatch.. I also think (not sure) that Cheryl is the political woman and is seen in a bunch of different scenes with Clay Davis and Carcetti.
Jan 16, 2015 I just finished a rewatch of the Wire S5 remastered that I DVR'd and I know this is going to be hugely unpopular but I'd rank the shows and their respective seasons The Wire S5= BB S5> The Wire S4> BBS3= The Wire S3> BB S2> BB S4> The Wire S1> BB S1> The Wire S2
Jan 19, 2015 It is what it is. I'd prefer to watch the other seasons more. I thought BB season 4 had a stretch of episodes in the middle of the season that might have been it's best ever but I definitely didn't feel the beginning or the end of that season were the same caliber. Either way I'm not knocking that season I mean I'd give it like a 9.7 on a scale of 1-10. I just personally prefer the other seasons above it more.
Jan 19, 2015 It's the season that certified the show as GOAT for me. Crawl space alone warrants it being higher than s2. It's a slow burn but it's arguably the shows best season
Jan 19, 2015 I'll give you that. Problem Dog through Crawl Space were absolute perfection. However I didn't care for how the season ended(I had a lot of problems with how Gus died.) And man, looking through season 2's episodes I might rank that higher than season 3 of The Wire. It's a popular opinion but I LOVED that season. But then again I could give a f--- less about what's popular I ranked The Wire season 5 as my favorite out of both of these shows so f--- it lol.
Jan 19, 2015 Yeah you're right. When I think season 5 of BB I think those final 8 episodes. If I include the first 8 then yes, season 4 of The Wire is light years better.
Jan 19, 2015 I've got all seasons of The Wire set and ready to go, but I've only ever watched the first two episodes before realizing I can't give it half attention. Need to find the time to sit down and watch it. If it is comparable to BB then it will live up to the hype
Jan 21, 2015 Depends on the day and how I'm feeling what my top 3 is. I can tell you that Breaking Bad is never really a candidate for me(not that it isn't a great show, it is). The shows that consistently come to mind are: The Wire - If you were to ask me which show consistently places in the top 3 for me, The Wire would be my answer. I've thought a lot about it over the years and it's one of the few shows where its flaws are irrelevant. One of the most thought provoking shows and it challenges you to view things from a different perspective. Bold beyond definition. The Sopranos - The first time I watched The Sopranos, I didn't "get" it but I guess that comes to circumstances and timing. After starting it up again a few years ago, it clicked for me. A masterclass of writing and acting, all the way through. Babylon 5 - Probably the most innovative show and it probably paved the way for every show on your top 10 list. The extreme novelistic approach to television started here. To this day, it still holds up. Even on the technical side. Everything about it is ahead of its time by quite a few years. Life on Mars(UK Version) - It's a short overlooked series, but it's incredibly well written and imaginative. Anyone who hasn't seen it, I legitimately feel sorry for. Band of Brothers/The Pacific - I can never really choose between two. I feel Band of Brothers is more cohesive as a story, but The Pacific is more emotionally affecting. The battle scenes in both are works of art. The Shield - As good as this show is, whenever I think about it, I think of the pilot episode. Not that the rest of the show isn't fantastic. But d--- did that first episode really hit me hard. And it's memorable because of how bold it really is. Those are probably the shows that I think of the most when I think of top 3. They're sort of interchangeable for me. But there are a few other shows that are better, but were canceled. Deadwood - I'm of the mind that this show would be without a doubt the greatest show ever made if it wasn't canceled because they would have followed up everything that season three set up. The dialogue is either the best or second best ever(it goes toe to toe with Justified). Pushing Daisies - One of the best dramedies ever made. The writing is beyond excellent. It also has a fantastic color palette and visual style. It boasts one of my favorite casts ever assembled. Then there are shows that aren't done yet, but as of right now, I feel are better than Breaking Bad. Justified - I'm the biggest fan of this show. But everyone probably knows this already. It has had the best dialogue on television ever since it started airing, no contest. Seasons 2, 3, and 4 are three of the best tv seasons of all time. I think it tends to get overlooked because it came out during a time when every show was about an anti-hero and that approach was so successful, Justified kind of got ignored because Raylan Givens isn't an anti-hero. It's also the most purely entertaining show that I've mentioned in this post. Hannibal - The first two seasons of this show are perfect seasons of television. If it comes out with another four or so seasons that are just as good or surpass them, it'll probably be the best show ever made. Louie - Comedy, drama, it doesn't matter. This show could probably do scifi and it would work. That's all a testament to Louis CK's talent.
