Feb 9, 2015 Really digging this, might leave class early every Monday to catch it as it's airing live instead of DVR or OnDemand
Feb 10, 2015 My biggest issue so far is the fact that it's been shot digitally, rather than primarily on film like BrBa was. Luckily the crew is great with cinematography, but there are some scenes that are just too clean for me.
Feb 10, 2015 I really f---ing like how it's looking though. It's more stylized to an extent. The shots in the desert are just gorgeous...like I thought I was tripping balls cause the clouds looked insane lol The directing is spectacular in general so far Also the two title cards >>>>>
Feb 10, 2015 I dunno... I get the reason for making the colors pop on a show with a character as eccentric as Saul is, but they could've gone the BrBa route and used their color contrasting with a louder, less subtle approach. Now it seems like every color is exaggerated. But still, we're only 2 episodes in and the cynic in me is just looking for things to nitpick.
Feb 10, 2015 I never really had doubts about Better Call Saul and I thought the first episode was great, but it had such a lighter feel that I was a little nervous. That second episode reminded me to never doubt the genius that is Vince Gilligan. Show will be amazing.
Feb 10, 2015 Loving this so far, but I feel like there was too much time spent on strange atmospheric closeups and montages in the second episode. None of them were bad but particularly the scene at the bar with the woman and the bread sticks I felt went on for too long. And is it just me or is the color palette really inconsistent? Like inside Jimmy's brothers house it seems like the palette will change slightly in the middle of a scene. And I absolutely agree with @LasiK about the lack of film grain in some shots being distracting. Not all the time but there are certain shots that just feel like they should be grittier.
Feb 10, 2015 "I'm the best lawyer ever." And god I wanted to f--- those 2 gingers up during the garage scene.
Feb 10, 2015 f---ing great first 2 episodes. I was exciting when I thought it was just a prequel show about Saul with the occasional BB cameo or crossover but after the the first 2 eps they have made it clear this is much more and looks to be a full on Breaking Bad companion show. I fully expect at least one full season of Gus when we get to that point in the time line...can't wait.
Feb 10, 2015 It's like they're taking all the highly stylized shows on channels like USA and doing it their own way lol. Or at least to me it feels like they're on path to keep flipping conventions. it being a law drama/dark comedy gives it a lot of room to fall into existing conventions
Feb 10, 2015 There's nothing wrong with discussing the production side of the show. Some people appreciate (and understand) the importance of the production and post production values.
Feb 10, 2015 I think I honestly prefer this to a more gritty aesthetic, especially considering the fact that, like you said, it's about Saul now -- not Walt.
