May 3, 2015 NEWS 01 hour ago De La Soul Raises $600,000 On Kickstarter For New Album "We have also gained a clearer insight into how you feel about us as a group and what we do," De La wrote in a message to fans. by Jay Balfour 1 After launching a Kickstarter campaign in March to fund their upcoming album, De La Soul have officially raised the second highest amount of money ever on the platform for a musical project. The group quickly reached their goal of $110,000 and when the funding period closed yesterday over 11,000 supporters had pledged a collective $600,875. The album, which will be the first for the group in over a decade, is set to include appearances from 2 Chainz, Little Dragon, Damon Albarn, and David Byrne. “Thank you so much to all of you for rewarding us with your time and help!!" the group said in a message to fans. "We have not only become the second most funded music project on Kickstarter, but we have also gained a clearer insight into how you feel about us as a group and what we do. You have helped directly play a part in giving us the much needed creative fuel by showing that we still matter to all of you! In knowing that we feel nothing less than number 1!!! Much love and this music is coming your way soon!! #thankyou #blessed #delasoul” In the original Kickstarter campaign, De La promised an alternative return to their sampling ways by reworking original recordings made specifically for the album. "This new album will incorporate elements of Jazz, Funk, Rock, Country Western and anything else we're feeling in the moment," the group wrote at the time. "To us, music is the influence of sounds, sounds in all vibrations and sizes, telling a story or pointing a direction. Some of these sounds we call samples, samples we use to make songs."
May 3, 2015 Pretty excited for this but why the f--- would they want 2 Chainz on this? I doubt that's what the people who funded the album had in mind for the features
May 3, 2015 Look at the variety of artists they're working with. It's dope that they're that open minded. d--- though, I heard about this awhile back and it totally slipped my mind. Would have loved to donate to this.

May 4, 2015 de la soul is dead used to be one of my favourite cds i need to buy it next time i see it. i dont know how good a new album will be
May 4, 2015 Because 2 chainz is a good f---ing rapper and people who say otherwise need to loosen their backpacks a little
May 4, 2015 I wouldn't say he is good but I can vibe to assume of his music even tho he is too old to make dumbed down nonsense
May 4, 2015 2 chainz is like half good half awful Every time he spits a line that makes you double take, he comes right back with some Tyga level s--- but if he with the GOATS de la soul he's gotta be spitting fire I mean cmon
May 5, 2015 1) Post 1: he's a good f---ing rapper 2) Post 2: he's half good half awful (which would make him painfully average at best if my math is correct) You don't have a clue do you. Being a good rapper takes more than a glimpse of hope once in a while
May 5, 2015 d--- you're right because I said he isn't good all the time I have no idea what being a good rapper is
May 5, 2015 You said he's not good HALF of the time, so I'm just saying you must have pretty low standards. Nothing to be mad about.
