5 or 6, when My Name Is first came out, I remember seeing the video on MTV at a friend's house. I was vaguely familiar with 2Pac at that point too. Listened to nothing but hip-hop til I was 13/14, used to copy all my brother's CDs. My parents were never really huge on censorship so they didn't give much of a f--- (though my mum did try to hide my MMLP cassette when she walked past my brother's room and we were listening to Under The Influence). Young as h---.

I got Illmatic when i was 3, i just found the lyrics so good and Nas gave a picture of what living in the NY hood felt like. I used to bump in it in nursery on my own

First rap song I was obsessed with was Bone Thugs n Harmony "Crossroads", my sister had the CD when it came out. But I didn't get into Hip-Hop as a genre until I was 14 or 15, around the year 2000.

It was the gateway to my interest in hip-hop and what 'got me' into hip-hop. You don't have to understand the lyrical content to be pulled into the genre.

But you're too thickheaded to understand that anyways.

When I was a young kid I liked Eminem, but wouldn't have a clue what was actually going on.

Then when I was 14 I really got into music and found 2pac and that's where I started to listen to hip-hop.

It might of but not at the age of f---ing 7 stop bullshitting. Maybe you heard a song on the radio but no f---ing 7 year old went to look for hiphop like that. where did you get your knowledge from where else did you find the music? Limewire? 7 year old kid on limewire looking up 2pac in 2002. And if your parents let you listen to MMLP and SSLP when your 7 then there pretty s-----y parents

    I'm not bullshitting.
I didn't say I eagerly seeked out hip-hop as a 7 year old. Like I said radio was a main source of hip-hop because it dominated the airwaves. Not to mention music vids etc.
Mate, no need to make things personal and take a dig at someones parents.

You talk with generalisations and assumptions within your posts. Would it k--- you to read my posts, digest it, comprehend the thing and just accept that that's how I got into hip-hop?

Getting into hip-hop doesn't mean I had to willfully seek out material like a music nerd.

originally i wasnt even talking to you, i was talking to the dude who said he started listening to hiphop when he was 6-7 and you jumped in so yes i assume you was in the same position otherwise why even comment.

How else do you get into something without doing your research, if i wanted to start getting in to heavy metal i would have to look online and see what its all about it isnt that accessible. Hiphop is more now because its way more mainstream but most of that is just pop/club s---

Why not comment? For one you didn't even quote anyone specifically so it was free reign for me to comment on your post. You have this warped idea that each hip-hop head has to have some sort of orthodox way of getting into the genre and if it's not that you lambast them and say they had bad parents like... c'mon son. Also it's a discussion board so I'm allowed to interject with an opinion that challenges yours.

And I'd argue hip-hop last decade was more mainstream-accessible. You didn't need the net to know who was superstar status in the hip-hop game. Eminem and 50 were on that international level.

And it was good music too. So don't give me that 'poppy/club s---' reasoning as to why it doesn't classify as 'hip-hop'.

I said now not a decade ago but there was only a few played on mainstream radio still, its not about the way of getting into its the age some people are saying i dont believe, hearing a song on the radio does not count iv heard rock music on the radio and i dont claim to now be in to rock. And yeah for a parent to give there 7 year old kid MMLP to listen to is bad parenting.

Hearing a song on the radio can be a gateway into getting into a specific genre is what my point on contention is.

Why can't people say they got into hip-hop thanks to Eminem at the age of 7-8 or whatever? Just because you may not like it doesn't mean that it's impossible.

And your continued parent comment is just painful. No one was given MMLP at the age of 7. You're just making up that point over and over again to fit your agenda.

How else would someone that age get it? walk in store and buy it. Even if they downloaded it from limewire im sure a parent would of noticed i dont think many kids that young had full access to computers without some kind of supervision

But who the f--- said they got MMLP as a minor ITT? :sad2:

Like, seriously. You're just veering off course of your main argument which is that radio doesn't count as a means of getting into a genre.
