Jun 13, 2015 Like, what do you do to occupy yourself for 12 hours? Logic said he's at the studio 12 hours a day, but what do you do for those 12 hours? Do you just write? I heard the recording only takes 2-3 weeks, so what do you for 12 hours a day for the rest of the year it takes to make a project?
Jun 14, 2015 Keep in mind that Logic it's also a producer and the guy dedicates more time in the studio than most rappers, kinda like Wayne. They just record and record to get enough material covered and because they really love rapping 1700 tracks and just 150 released to the public, Jesus Christ
Jun 14, 2015 When u have a home studio it's easier to stay in the studio more but when u have a label deal and there paying for the studio time it's easier to get in debt with the label so since logic has his own studio he doesn't have to worry about that which means more time inside of it
Jun 14, 2015 Yeah, but what work is done in the studio? Is it like writing for 10 hours and recording for 2?
Jun 14, 2015 Depends if they had something pre written before they got there u know? If not then it's make a beat which can take a while maybe 1-2 hours to just get an idea of the beat and some artist take 30min to even 3 hours just to write, the recording process can take up to 30min or more depending on the pace of the artist, of course a full songs recording will take longer than say a verse for a feature u know? Then the mastering process can take up to more than 2 hours and that's if your doing it right which is eq and stabilizing each instrument u used in the song so it's a long process, so when an artist says every album this is my best work just think how many hours they put in of course there gonna say that u know it's crazy
Jun 14, 2015 Ah, are most rappers still using a notebook and pen to write their songs, or do they write on their laptops?
Jun 14, 2015 now thats a difficult one to answer since its all preference some people feel they get more out by quickly writing on paper or they feel its more traditional, for example writing a paper if u do it so many times u get good at writing a paper than compared to writing a text on a phone which might autocorrect to wrong thing or some people type at a slower pace which isnt quick pen to pad its 2 different paces, now i will say ive seen more people use the technology since our era is more technology based so to answer your question i believe more will use the phones notes or laptop than a notebook soon but its still up to the writer how to approach the process
Jun 14, 2015 Ah, I see. I've been writing in my notepad, and though I have a good vocabulary, I really need to get better at song-structure/metaphors/breaking away from being generic.
Jun 14, 2015 u just gotta be comfortable being u if any label walks up to u and ask who your trying to target and who are u in this game u gotta be able to answer that with confidence and thats a hard thing to answer but truthfully u just gotta know yourself like put who u are in your music most people put who there inspired by in there music which doesnt help u gotta be like when i listen to this do i hear me or do i hear the person im trying to be, so if your the party rapper or the story telling rapper you just gotta be comfortable with who u are.
Jun 14, 2015 keep writing with your hand.. your brain remembers sentences easier when your hand goes thru the motion of writing the words
Jun 14, 2015 being that logic's a producer he probably mix and master his own material. A proper mix and master on one song could take anywhere from 6 hrs to a couple days. I wanna say I read somewhere that Kanye took like 48 hours to mix that Stronger beat to the final product so yeah. When you doing more than just vocals, its easy to spend that much time in the studio. I did 5 or 6 yesterday my self
