Thought maybe this could be another interesting thread for any of the producers here on the forum, to simply share how they go about orchestrating their tracks, be it with sample beats/original compositions/remixes etc. and possibly shed some light on the process for any other producers who might be trying to start out.

I usually start out a couple of ways... I try and either work on the sound of the bass/synths at first, or I'll approach it from some sort of piano instrument and try to hit some notes that really make you feel the mood I'm trying to set.

I've obviously got a lot of EDM influence present in my music, so I end up structuring my songs purposefully around a lot of big builds and drops, and a lot of times my electronics sort of start taking over until I reign them back in and bring in a more hip hop sound with the drums and instrument choices. Some songs I let slip into the really EDMish areas of music while others I purposefully push towards the hip hop side to where there's very little electronic stuffs happening at all. Try to keep a delicate balance all while keeping a very mood atmospheric thing going with my sound.

I try and use a lot of very raw synths for bass, usually with some sort of distortion added and tweaked, as well as a good amount of reverb for the atmosphere from a lot of the higher notes, which work very nice (imo anyways) to contrast with the bass. Also generally love to throw in some strings and other orchestral instruments on the high notes to go against the synth basses, or I sometimes do the opposite and go with something like a cello sidechained as the bass with synths on the highs.

Usually try to do at least a couple things different in each song so than I've previously/recently done them, to keep things fresh with my production and keep it varied. And if I pick up a new technique with production from another song I've heard, I try and do it slightly different as to not just bite their style directly.

Uh, I don't work with sample beats since I really have nothing to sample from, so everything but my re/mixes are entirely original compositions.

I work entirely in FL, and use a lot of vengeance essentials packs for drum kits, also have some that @Creation slipped me (:daps:) a bit ago. Pretty much always use reNexus (:allears:) for my leads and most of my counter melodies. Got Orchestral on tap for a lot of strings and horns.

Just gonna mention a few of you guys here

When i started in 2005, It was All original. Then I started sampling in late 2005/06, and that's been my style ever since. Been using FL since I started, I'd k--- for an MPC :noah:

Tbh, I've looked at stuff like MPCs and idk how well that'd mesh with my style. I don't think I could work with those @TrxggerShot @Bleed
they seem neat tho, like I could possibly perform somehow with them. I just dunno how

    Started 7 years ago.
Start with a melody line of how I'm feeling. Add a complimentary sample. f--- up the sample's tempo, pitch, effects, etc.
    Possibly add another sample.
    Add a bassline.
    Add drums.
    Tweak to perfection.
    Export.

I usually start chopping up my sample or coming up with a melody for the synths I'm using and add a basic drum beat right away to help me groove to it while I'm making it. Then I add whatever else I think is missing and try complete what will be the main part of the beat. After all that I format it adding/removing elements so it doesn't get repetitive throughout and then last I work on the drops and transitions from one part to the next. I'm usually mixing throughout the entire process instead of doing that all at the end

I'm still very much a newbie at it

But I usually have a melody stuck in my head, play it on piano, save it onto my PC, then add other instruments and effects until I'm satisfied

reminds me, I do all this sort of stuff through the entire process as well. Always mix and master as I go and adjust things constantly. Dunno how many exports I do trying to get one little thing fixed here and there with the sound of things, that most people would probably never even notice... and I f---ing pick through every inch of my songs looking for things to fix for hours a day most of the time.

Also I pretty much always create my entire melody and counters and everything in one big pattern, and mix and master the vast majority of my song there while I'm putting that together, then I go in and put that pattern down in the window, duplicate that pattern as a backup, and split the entire pattern into the individual channels and chop up everything and piece together the whole song that way with all of it in it's own patterns already, occasionally using the "make unique" feature to add a lot of slight little alterations to the different patterns.

I feel you on the exports, most of my beats I've exported like 10 times because I wanted to adjust the volume of the snare half a db or something lol
