Made this thread a month ago btw... But it's LeBron.

Anyone who says otherwise either doesn't watch the NBA, or hates LeBron/rides Kobe.

Kobe is probably a better shooter and leader. But Lebron is a better overall player.

Statistically speaking, there's no argument. LeBron is even the better clutch performer according to the stats. Kobe has lost in the finals as has LeBron, with worse teams. It can also be argued that Shaq carried Kobe to the first few rings... Which he kinda did, but not completely. I'll admit that Kobe ahd some great games. LeBron just had one of the best finals ever with a horrible supporting cast which cost the Cavs the series. I could go on about more if you'd like, but I feel like that's enough.

Personally, I put just as much in what I see on the court as much as I do numbers. When I compare NBA players, I think it's important to look at circumstances.

For example, Kobe rarely played his rookie year for some unknown reason, while LeBron has been the number 1 option since day 1 for an awful Cleveland team. The numbers are in LeBron's favor, but don't you think if Kobe was in that situation, he would have put up at least the same scoring numbers? His assists & rebounds would be a little lower, but scoring wise I think he could have easily averaged 15-20 ppg from day 1.

2nd, as soon as Kobe started flashing superstar potential, Shaq was brought in. It was obviously great for him and the franchise, but again, his numbers would be much higher if he was the undisputed number 1 option like LeBron has been.

3rd, I'll give you the fact that Shaq was clearly the man for championship number 1, but for 2 & 3, they carried that team together, not one over the other. Kobe had the toughest defensive assignments, and had PG duties while also shouldering a big scoring load. Make no mistake about, Kobe was no sidekick for 2 & 3.

Obviously not calling you a hater bruh @Big Mitch but these are the facts. Kobe also dragged a team that was probably worse than LeBron's old Cavs teams (05-07) to the playoffs d--- near every year, losing to MUCH better teams than LeBron was facing in the East. Taking that team to the brink of the Finals against the Suns was much more impressive than Bron taking the Cavs to the Finals for a sweep in 07. A career Finals record of 5-2 vs 2-3 cannot ignored either.

Numbers are important, but they don't tell the whole story.

Both are great players and top 10 of all time, but Kobe is the obvious answer for me. The clutch stats are also overrated. Kobe has taken much more than Bron. Comparing FG% in general doesn't work for these 2 either, because their offensive game is so different. Kobe loves the midrange, 3 ball, and loves to slash. Bron is a brute, and hardly ever shoots outside of 10-15 feet. Nothing against him, but making that comparison isn't really fair to point out as a knock on Kobe.

Outside of Laker and Kobe fans I don't see how anyone can truly believe Kobe is the better player.

@POOHDINI You saved me from doing tons of typing lol, agreed 100%

But the past 4-5 seasons LeBron has been the best player in the NBA.

    My bad bruh, didn't notice.

I was thinking today how much it sucks that Kobe had that achilles injury cuz his 2013 season (his 17th) was a really amazing season and maybe one of his best. He had all kinds of great moments, was still at the top of his game. But ever since then he hasn't been near that level consistently, it's a shame we didn't get to see how his career would have ended and if/when he would have finally had a major decline in his game, cuz it still hadn't happened up until that point which is amazing.

I might be wrong but I feel like Kobe should try to play a much different role this season for the Lakers. Realistically he'll probably only play about 25 minutes a game and I think 15, 5 and 5 would be good stats to aim for. If he can get those kinda numbers and be a good leader on a young team gunning for a playoff spot then that'd be a good way to go out. He can still take over games when they're close in the last 5 minutes which would be huge since a lot of the young guys probably won't be ready for those moments.

@Kon Kobe can easily average 20+ points every game, even though the injury affected him badly, he still plays like himself. He had two triple doubles last season (correct me if I'm wrong) early in before he decided to sit the rest of the season out due to his shoulder. He can still play big, & he will this upcoming season.

More interestingly, if you had a chance to live through one of these careers, either Kobe's or LeBron's, which would you rather have? As great as LeBron has been, I still think Kobe has had the better career and was a heck of a lot more entertaining to watch (even if LeBron wins another ring, he'll need two or more to surpass Kobe's career imo)
