Mar 26, 2017 what jb was trying to say was more rappers were moving 500k units then which is a lot of competition because it means if they drop 2 weeks after Eminem, he would be bounced from number 1. Today how many pop stars are moving >500k? how many rappers in the last 3 years apart from drake has moved up to 500k?
Mar 26, 2017 I don't really see the logic. 17 years ago everyone was selling well and now nobody is. So how does that affect anything? You're literally saying: Drake sells 500k first week today and only a couple of popstars can come close, so Drake has no competition I'm saying: Em sold 1.7M first week and only a couple of popstars could come close, so Em had no competition How do you not see the contradiction by disagreeing?
Mar 26, 2017 Thank you. Exactly what I was trying to say, and to answer your question only other rappers besides Drake to move 500k in the last 3 years was Eminem, and J.Cole was close last year with 492k. Also like to add it's a lot easier to sell now since they adding streams, and a certain amount of singles sold equal a album, which is the only reason drake did a mil first week with views. Without the extra s--- he did 852k. Only ppl Drake has to worry about is Adele, possibly Eminem, Taylor Swift, and I think Beyoncé
Mar 26, 2017 People saying Drake more popular... ? Definitely not. Em sold nearly 2 milli records in a fkn week. That's insane. People can say it's a different time now, yeah but they count streams and s--- - comparatively he still doesn't do close to those numbers... Also, Drake is more like a popstar. He's well known across the globe. But Eminem was in people's mind & soul, he'd have people who spoke different languages crying because of the meaning in what he was saying, not just because they found him hawt or w.e, And he had high level politicians trying to abolish free speech in the name of his music - that's how popular he was, they thought his thoughts were a threat to American youth, because he was so influential. Drake isn't close to that level, or depth of impact on such a wide scale.
Mar 26, 2017 And who were the rappers selling 1.7M in 2000? No other solo artist in history, that's who! Drake literally has more competition than Em by your own logic.
Mar 26, 2017 Encore has moved more units Wolrd Wide than Recovery and MMLP2 I guess you'd call Encore a more popular album than either of those? Lol great logic. Truly remarkable.
Mar 26, 2017 Dude, you are going all this depth to defend drake? If it was soooo clear why are you the only one defending him. Even Eminem haters are giving Em the vote, man. You are borderline ridiculous, save your a--- whilst you can... There is no competition, Em was insanely more popular. f--- it, since you like to talk bout streams and s--- , check the youtube videos: Em has more views than drake for songs coming out this decade.... imagine if youtube was a thing in 2001....
Mar 26, 2017 And now we are up to 18 Tbh I'm just enjoying the discussion, if it was really a no brainer people would stop replying. Like if it was Em vs Tyga or something do you really think people would have replied for so many pages? Of course not, because they would be confident in their position. When it comes to Drake they have to argue the point just to convince themselves
Mar 26, 2017 well, huge difference, Drake is top 5 most popular rapper ever, while tyga is not even top 50 1- Em 2- 2pac 3- 50 Cent/Biggie 5- Drake and he broke lose yourself record (thanks to charts being ruined by streaming). so people gonna think u r really that ignorant and lecture u and we gave u both Vevo stats, More Life sold only 250 without streams, 550k with it ,,, but you still ignore them.. I don't see that enjoying the discussing.. well it's not that hard making 18 pages out of trolling stans JMG made 400? pages
Mar 26, 2017 Comparing sales 17 years apart is completely futile. I made the example of comparing Encore to Recovery (or even Relapse). Eminem's WORST and LEAST POPULAR album sold more than RECOVERY (way more popular than Encore, no question). That gives you an idea of why sales are just one point to consider. Honestly I think Vevo stats are the better comparison and you genuinely have me more convinced using them than sales figures. Do you think Eminem is bigger than the Beatles ? How about bigger than Elvis? The answer is an emphatic no f---ing way, maybe if people remember him decades after he dies we can talk again, but for now it's obvious he isn't in the same breath. But they never sold 1.7M. Like I said, I think relying on sales as your main argument is lazy
Mar 26, 2017 Which is more popular, The Massacre or To p---- A Butterfly? Must be The Massacre Cheers or good kid mad city? You guys think Kendrick (and by extension: Drake) wouldn't be selling 10x as much 17 years ago?
Mar 26, 2017 I agree, sales are not everything there are 3 elements: 1- Fame 2- Sales 3- Love Iggy is famous yet her albums sales are low, and she is hated Vanilla ice is famous, his sales were high as f---, memed both, Em and Drake got those 3 on lock... but Em fans are more dedicated and he gets more credits for his craft from the legends like Jayz, Nas, Dre, etc.. while Drake uses reference tracks and ghost written s---, and his fanbase mainly listen for catchy party or because its a fun 'rap' .. idk why im arguing, honestly I couldn't care less if drake or kanye or wayne are bigger than Em... He is waaaaaaaaaaaay more entertaining and touches me deeply than anyone of them, and he isn't poppy unoriginal manufactured... even his poppy songs are well crafter, written by him, and are technical as f---.
Mar 26, 2017 I been watching famous arab youtubers...just this week seen 1 eminem mention, and another playing song from TES 50 cent gets referenced a lot too... drake, wayne, kanye... never get mentioned that's the difference
Mar 26, 2017 This thread should be closed mehn, only person supporting drake here is a wigger with identity crisis. If you can't get the argument that more rappers selling well then means more competition for Eminem and that drake has NO competition other than Eminem then it's worthless arguing with you. It's not that hard to dominate a group of chumps who can't even break 400k units
Mar 26, 2017 And Eminem is waaaaay more popular in Asia, Europe. The U.S is probably the only place where he's more popular than Em. Drake is NOT a world superstar, Americans think 'oh he's so popular here, so he's popular everywhere'. LOL
Mar 26, 2017 I remember the peak-Eminem hype days when the 8 mile movie came out. At that time period, Eminem could have announced a coast-to-coast solo tour playing only 80,000 seat football stadiums and he would've sold out every show 5 minutes after the tickets went on sale. Drake never could replicate that hype on his best day. In fairness to Drake, hiphop as a genre was much bigger, and digital (online) content wasn't nearly as large as it is today, so it was much easier for Em to have a captured audience. But the point still holds, regardless - Eminem's peak hype was way larger.
Mar 26, 2017 Obviously Eminem. Drake isn't THAT big. My mom definitely has never heard about Drake. Drakes numbers aren't even close. And who's saying Eminem didn't play on radio? The bottom line is Drake hasn't at any point been the most famous person on earth.
