Not being allowed to say "n-----" is idiotic. Either no one can or everyone can. You can't claim a word. Especially if someone's from a country which doesn't have a history of having black slaves. Their ancestors didn't do anything racist to be labeled as racist if they say the word "n-----".

I think it did impact his career. It didn't impact his earnings or sales all that much. But i would argue it did negatively impact his career. For one, it fueled the Benzino and source beef which helped fuel the 50 and Ja beef which altogether snowballed into a complete cluster f---. It got so bad Em was wearing a bulletproof vest when out in public. Maybe part of that was for show but at some level it was definitely for protection. Ive always felt that the leak of his racist comments plus the various beefs all helped fuel his growing drug problem which ultimately evolved into a full blown addiction which led to Encore, his long hiatus, and his modern day musical output. This all trends in the wrong direction. This whole chain of events ended his complete dominance of hip hop. And these racist tapes were the catalyst to his downfall.

So yea I would argue it DID negatively impact his career. It essentially was the, pun intended, "nail in his coffin" for his reign at the top.

It did not, however, seem to drastically impact his sales/earnings, which is what you are probably alluding to the most. I believe this is mainly due to the fact that the primary buyers of his music, concert tickets, and merch sales are white people. Plus the vast majority of his buyers aren't real hip hop heads who know this should be a career killer in the hip hop world. Most of these beefs flew over their heads since they only were buying his albums. They weren't feverishly checking for leaks or green lantern mixtapes. On top of that, he has such a global fanbase who fall into this same category: white people who either didn't know about the tapes or they just don't give one f--- about the fact he made a racist song many years before he blew up.

Personally, I was very disappointed when I bought the source magazine and it included these songs. My initial reaction was, he's definitely not racist seeing as how he's so close to D12, Dre, Royce, Xzibit, etc. So I never once thought he was racist. I always felt, and still to this day, like he was making music when he was a bum and a nobody and said the most insensitive thing he could have ever said on record. I'm white and I've known other white people who have said the n word but I know they're not racist. They were just insensitive morons who should never say that word. Anyways, Em deserved any and all the backlash that went his way, whatever that amounted to. In no world should a white person dropping the n bomb be accepted. It's f---ing disgusting. This is especially true if you were raised on hip hop music. These white people, more than anyone, know this is 100% not tolerated and they deserve any negative repercussions that come their way for saying such an ignorant thing.

I actually don't remember if Em used the n word or not but the facts still remain. I think he drops the n bomb in the other leaked song. Not foolish pride but the other one, right? s--- I don't remember. Regardless, racism is never cool.

Ok I'm just rambling now. I'll shut up.

Edit: random side thought... It did spark this gem of a bar...

But I've heard people say they heard the tape and it ain't that bad
But it was I singled out a whole race and for that apologize
I was wrong cause no matter what color a girl is she's still a hoe

    :dead:

I don't see how this is racist at all. It's just a hurt, heartbroken 16 year old talkin' about his gf. The guy couldn't even said the n word at all. It's obvious he is everything but a racist. And this song was so old and rare that probably nobody ever heard outside of few people in Detroit back in the days, eminem was nobody at the time so who would have cared anyway ? I'M not sure when did that song shared on internet or where did it pop up but it was definitely not worthy of making a big deal outta in his Slim Shady days with all the other controversy surrounding him.
