    MTY VERY SHALLOW LISTENING

    May 7, 2015
I read through the first two (the Pitchfork review I read whenever it came out) and I just find both authors reading way into this album. I kinda see where they're coming from but their points complementing the album are complaints from my side (the minimal production, the Birdman verses [seriously how the f--- do you praise a Birdman verse?], the larger focus on Thug, and the lack of hooks for example). I think Thug has potential to make a good record, but I think he was stretching his limits on Barter 6. He's still heavily reliant on production and hooks and stripping that away exposes his flaws much more easily.

Stretching his limits is definitely an off-base conclusion to reach m8 -- if anything, he wasnt nearly as elastic as he usually is. Regardless of quality, one of the main takeaways should be that its a restrained record for Thug, not that hes trying to do too much.

Just as you think they're overanalyzing (which I dont get, because every point made by Drake or Garvey is substantiated beyond scrutiny) you're definitely oversimplifying. Just as with the comment about the albums's "content," you're trying to paint the project under one light, regardless of whether if it fits or not.

How is Thug's rapping not extremely sound on Just Might Be or Halftime?

as for the Birdman verses, they are both more than likely ghost written by thug, and they're both pretty hilariously fitting

The point I've stated multiple times was that Thug is not interesting to me. I just can't be bothered to care about anything he says.

You clearly have no idea about hiphop so you dont belong judging it. You must be under 18
