What if you don't live in america, and are just visiting? do you have a pass to speak your primary language then? Or should anybody trying to come into the country take a written english exam at the border to prove they are competent enough in the language to communicate?

I'm not trying to get into the actual nitty grit about it man, I'm just saying it's a possible public safety issue if foreign speaking people are in America using their language to communicate with in public, that's it.

Not sure how it should be handled, tbh.

If you are visiting from another country that is different. If you move to America you should have to know how to speak english.

Should people not be allowed to use any private communication device in public? (ie, text) because by your logic that could also be a public safety issue. Also am a potential public issue if I'm on a business trip to china, and need to use english to communicate?

How much of a difference is there between a US resident speaking spanish at the grocery store and a tourist doing the same?
Also, I agree people need to adapt to the country they choose to live in. I did. But do you think learning english is a matter of purchasing Rosetta Stone and flipping the english switch on? Learning a new language can take years of effort, especially when you've grown accustomed to only speaking your native language for 30 years.
No, i felt I understood your views pretty well. Those were legitimate questions that I was actually curious to hear your answers to...

Like I said man, can't get into the grit of it. Too much grey area, ya know? In a perfect world foreign people who make another land their home would be able to speak the language in public so as there isn't any miscommunication. That'll never always be the case, though.

This is why they try teaching other languages in school guys, the more we know the better it is for everyone. Similar to what the fam @JCinator is saying my parents took awhile to learn English once they stepped into the country, the adaptation process & cultural acclimation is never easy.

It's not a gray area though, you also didn't think it was when you made comments such as "if you live here you should speak english in public, because doing otherwise is a safety issue" Sounds like a pretty black & white opinion to me.

Again, im legitimately curious to hear your views on these questions

In a perfect world it wouldn't be possible for a group of people to conspire against a nation in their own backyard.

How much more clear can I get?

I meant gray area as far as just how much safety you can implement-- just how many strides you can make to eliminate the danger in the end.

My initial point was that it is a bad thing that people have their own 'secret language', you could say, to use in public among people who can't understand what they are saying. As I said, in a perfect world that would not be okay and people would be fully able/expected to comply in communication that everyone can understand and so there is no misunderstanding/danger. However obviously that isn't possible and never will be. You mention texts and private communications though, and it brings in the idea that in reality no one would ever be able to prevent people from conspiring on their own-- that stuff, that gray area, could never ever be monitored and managed. Get what I'm saying? And so, honestly, I'm not sure what should be done.

because your excuse is almost as bad as the old lady's in the video. you think because someone is speaking a different language it's a potential threat? anyone speaking english can be a threat and you wouldnt even know it

My job is dealing with welfare recipients and quite a few foreign people can't speak a lick of English but recieve welfare and have been here for years. Why should tax payers have to foot the bill to take care of people like that?
