from what i can tell, the whole "speak english" thing is simply due to it making some people uncomfortable or mad because they can't understand it, which isn't a valid enough reason to force non-english speakers to speak english 100% of the time in public, especially since that would obviously make them uncomfortable lol. besides that, lots of stuff makes people uncomfortable, but we don't force everyone to follow everyone's way of doing things in public unless it's a serious risk to public safety. this is not

It's could act as a guise for underhanded things among people who don't speak the language. Key word could. That's not to say anything bad of people who speak that language or do not know the language of the place they are residing in.

Yes, you pretty much answered your own question. If you come across some people speaking a foreign language & the first thing that pops into your head is that they could be potential "safety hazards" (aka terrorist) than you're an extremely paranoid individual who likely holds some racist beliefs.

I'm saying it's hardly the policed situation that is is supposed to be because the soldiers have their own language and could have any intentions they want and the people have to assume they are doing right because they can't understand what is being said.

I read through the entire thread & didn't see your example of foreign soldiers in the Middle East but I can already tell you that's a bad comparison because we aren't talking about soldiers here, we're talking about civilians & the Middle East is a completely different environment/society than America is.

You're bouncing around playing both sides of the spectrum in this thread. You've clearly acknowledge that people can conspire to commit violent acts without using a foreign language which makes speaking a foreign language in public a non issue.

Nah, you're right on that. When the fact is people will find a way to conspire regardless of an existent or nonexistent language barrier then the idea that foreign language can be used as a guise for underhanded activity does become sort of irrelevant.
