If I made a top 100 filmmakers list, I don't think any of them would be considered a "least favorite" for me.

well, see.. just like in my top 100 films list.. the ones that aren't in my top 50 are considered "least favorite".. even though, they are my "favorites". Maybe I should start wording it differently, it seems to be confusing people..lol

"least favourite" tends to imply you don't like them very much but you don't dislike them. There is probably at least 100 directors I like. So a director would have to be like my 90th faovourite for them to be my least favourite. David Fincher would probably be like 50th for me, and I still wouldn't call him a least favourite. Christopher Nolan or someone like that might fit that bill. I like him, but he's one of my least favourite. If a director is in my top 10, I call them "one of my favourites"

Gotcha, I've had similar thoughts. As much as I like movies like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Gone Girl, one can't help but wonder if his considerable talents would be better served tackling something more than airport novels or remakes. As you noted, I'm not sure he has anything deeply personal to convey with his films (Zodiac probably being the most personal, as it was clearly a passion project) and he seems content to apply his craft primarily to dark, psychological thrillers...which of course is perfectly fine.

Fincher is great, i think he is the closest director to Hitchcock we've ever got. He can make a mystery and suspense out of anything, proof of that are Panic Room and The Game. Films i sometimes think are underrated even by myself
