Thats true s--- u really preachin brother. You know where this mentality is coming from? Those rappers scared to do new s--- because they know that those would not get into a spotify playlist. But if you do lil baby type songs it gets a better chance to get into a RapCaviar for example

It’s reflective of the entire industry being in a weird flux right now, streaming is still in the wild west stages and the industry is struggling to adapt and stabilize itself into a new era.

In the past it was the norm for artists to drop an album and disappear for 1-2 years before dropping another. Now that there is such easy access to so much music, artists have to be dropping new music literally constantly to have any chance at staying relevant.

Older, established artists like most on this list have the privilege of being able to disappear and come back still very relevant because they have established huge fan bases from 10+ years ago when the music industry was a very different place.

New artists struggle badly to build fan bases that are loyal like that. They can drop new music at a rapid rate and still not have a chance because the quality will dip and people will move onto one of the 100 other fresh options. It’s hard to imagine any new artist getting as big as Drake, Kanye or even Kendrick or J Cole etc in this environment, it is probably impossible. It is kinda sad because it is almost like the ringtone rap era where labels are chewing up and spitting out Lil Pumps every 2 months.

Chief Keef only being 28 is incredible given how long he’s been around lol.

Same goes with Wayne only being 40 lol.

Here’s a good video on a possible explanation for some of the stagnation in hip hop… the producers.

The good rappers are aging. The young rappers are f---ing trash. So in general, yes rap is aging and dying. :emoji_sob:

What do you think are the young rappers doing wrong to impress you? Do you expect bars and nice flows? Or something else
