Oct 24, 2015 7, first half is amazing, but second half has too much filler and the album feels too long
Oct 24, 2015 Oh btw part of the rules is you gotta post a sentence or two explaining why you gave it that score or I won't count your rating toward the average. I'm not asking for a full review, I just want to keep this topic discussion-based and not a bunch of people posting ratings with no justification. Thanks mayne.
Oct 24, 2015 6/10 Even as a Rocky fan I'm still not sold on this record. It has it's moments of brilliance that get repressed by dull/uninspired songs, my favorite part of this album was hearing Max B's live performance of Baby I Wonder. I'm sure Rocky has another LiveLoveASAP in him but he gotta figure it out how to put it out on a retail project.
Oct 24, 2015 6.5/10 This album, even though its the most cohesive and consistent sounding project of rocky's, is good but not great imo, mainly because there's just a huge handful of tracks i don't like that sort of takes away the greatness for me (Fine Whine, LSD, Westside Highway, Better Things, Everyday, even Holy Ghost), everything else is godly though.
Oct 24, 2015 5 for me. Despite being more experimental than his other releases, it's also his most dull and boring. I appreciate it when artists try new things but Rocky was just going out of his depth.
Oct 24, 2015 5. Average rating. Fantastic production, but Rocky is such a bland rapper - one of the most uninteresting rappers out.
Oct 24, 2015 7.5 / 10 very intersting beats and flows. kinda dulls near the end but picks up with the last few tracks
Oct 24, 2015 7 for me. It's a nice fun album but it's elder brother, Long Live ASAP, is the more dominate member of his discography.
Oct 24, 2015 I definitely agree with you on the dull part. I remember hearing he was going to be trying new sounds on this album, i looked forward to the album, then i actually got to hear some of those tracks (Fine Whine, LSD, Holy Ghost etc.) and they just sounded so bland & lifeless. The mastering played a big part in the dull sound as well, compared to the unmaster, the official album sounds more muddy.
Oct 24, 2015 Disliking l'art pour l'art for the sake of disliking it is just as pretentious and misguided as what you're criticizing
Oct 24, 2015 6.5/10. Really like the high points on this album (LPFJ, lsd, canal st, everyday, electric body) but overall the album feels too long and just drags on.
Oct 24, 2015 8.5/10 I can throw it on whenever I want and still enjoy it. Very cohesive, very enjoyable. Dark, moody vibes
Oct 24, 2015 This x10000000 There's no reason a motherfucking Rocky x Juicy J collab should come in at track 16 or whatever. There's no need for rocky to go psuedo-political for a sec and mull over current race issues in an unengaging interlude an hour into the album. The album stretches on to where it becomes a chore to see it to its end, and its only compacted by the fact that the quality dips halfway right up until Everyday. And maybe it would have been excusable if this was some fully-realized hallucinogen-fuled foray into Rocky's pysche, but instead all the interesting psych-rock elements that were touted as the album's selling point feel tame and half-baked, coasting on a solid foundation instead of reaching any sort of climax, similar to an Ellie Goulding song. Every time the character starts to seep its way into Electric Body, it suddenly stops and goes right back to familiar territory. There's no moment in the rock-inspired songs where the vision is realized. Instead, the dopest songs are the ones that sound out of place. Canal St's Bones influence matched with Rocky's great rapping sell it. LPFJ2s amazing beat (by the underrated production duo Nez & Rio) and the hype sound get you, etc etc. Despite all this, the album really does manage to shine in certain parts of the first half and the finale, to where I think anything in the 6.5 to 7.5 range would be fair. 7 for me.
Oct 24, 2015 I think LongLive was a typical case of going too safe your first time around, and I think ALLAs faults can be blamed on Rocky probably being on acid and thinking his s--- was WAAAY deeper than it really was. I'm confident he's got his s--- down now. Third time's the charm.
