Although I believe Old is by far his best project, an avid fan of Danny Brown could potentially make that case for each of his releases. He's a lot more consistant than people give him credit for: it just took the rest of the world a while to catch up to him

--- is every bit as engaging and entertaining as Old -- it just feels more raw and uncut. It's more grimey, the content more explicit, but the themes are familiar. Once Old inevitably gets you into the dude (because it's a classic), --- suddenly becomes a lot more accesible

Danny has said that he would transcribe Aesop Rock songs to better himself as a writer so I don't think he's shallow or surface level all of the time. He definitely gives credence to "ignorant art". I just think the order of side A and B might be a tad trivial in the scheme of things. I like how less refined --- compared to Old. I agree that he's still searching for the character on it. Old feels almost tame by comparison. I love both projects though. --- has a lot more intricacies and nuances imo.

At this point I feel done with specifics. I think both you and I gave good enough reasons to respect/critic the album, which is a little more than people usually get from the board. I'm not @Narsh so I won't simply dickride anyone's opinion and blindly like any posts most you make that fits my personal opinion.

I also find Aesop Rock unengaging forever which will obviously separate @CharlieWork from my music taste but at least I do respect his opinion and recognition.

btw @Narsh. I respect the fact that you do reviews and other pointless bs for the board, but you are absolutely THE most boring person I have ever encountered on the internet, and that is saying a lot since I don't have facebook or twitter.

If you were involved in the new Kanye West performance, I would have had absolutely no enjoyment from it, because your spam would be so incredibly repetetive that I would just make myself hate Kanye.

You are just that annoying, and I'm surprised people aren't as much vocal as I am about how horrible you are.

I used to think Lil Wayne had one of the hardest voices to get past in rap music and then I was introduced to Danny Brown. The song that made me want to continue listening to him was Die like a Rockstar. I love how he switches his voices and the manic vibes he gives off throughout the album. The production fits his personality really well. definitely one of those projects that I tend,to listen to front to back bc listening to it randomly seems wrong. One of my favorite albums and one of my favorite rappers

8/10 I really slept on this album because of Danny's voice. I finally gave it listen about a year after it came out and just kicked myself for sleeping on it. Like Narsh said, it feels more "raw" then Old, but that's what makes it great in my opinion.

I still kick myself for sleeping on Danny Brown for so long.

--- was the first Danny Brown project I listened to, and I agree with what @Narsh said about it becoming more accessible after hearing Old. It wasn't until after Old came out that it really clicked with me...I think @CharlieWork put it best when he said it was the "rough draft" to Old.

My favorite song is probably DNA.

Haven't decided yet. I was thinking of doing an older album because all of these have been from the 2010s so far. I'm open to suggestions!

Dr. Dre is a possibility but definitely not Eminem. There's already a bunch of ranking/rating topics in the Em section. I'm looking for something more polarizing.

Yeah, I've actually never listened to either of them (downloading both now though). I'm worried not enough people have listened to them, but if people show enough interest I'm down.

A Lil Wayne album should provide some sparks, C2 or C3? I'm sure a good amount of people here might have listened to them. I can think of a ton for the 90s if it ever comes to that.

Love the album. The rough production and Danny Browns Voice harmonize perfectly. My fav. Song is Die Like A Rockstar.

Based upon 11 ratings, SectionEighty gives --- an 8.5.

[2/27/15] Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

Decided to do C3 because it's more polarizing and a more interesting release in a lot of ways. Pretty much everyone who isn't an idiot regards C2 as a classic.

    I didn't get your mention. @BigCountry

In my opinion, this was the beginning of the end for Wayne. He started embracing the goofy/lazy side of writing that he would come to be known for. Before, he would come in with these slick flows and that southern drawl with the creative/clever lines peppered in. I think it still works on this record, a record that also contains some of his biggest "bangers" that really cemented what that word meant to the masses today. A Milli's loud and aggressive production is really proto-Meek Mill proto-ScHoolboy proto-Drake in regards to "bangers" in the mainstream. Of course other Southern artists were doing it a la Gucci and Jeezy but Wayne kind of eclipsed them commercially.

Wayne went platinum with his first release at 17, but this is the record that made him a household name. Also the record that ruined Youtube comments forever, mostly due to Lollipop which was a crossover radio hit. Still, I think it has the best production of anything he ever did. I mean people say GRODT's beats are timeless, but these could seriously come out today and they're 7 years old. Call Drake a post 808 rapper if you wanna, but he pretty clearly took the torch from the Wayne that peaked on this tape.

idk what's up with mentions, sometimes they don't go through. I know they don't work if you edit them in, but I made sure not to do that.
