Jan 8, 2020 Tetsuo & Youth: 7/10 A bizzare album in every sense of the way. For one, I strongly believed the Lupe I grew up to love was gone and buried after he got caught in the crossfires of LASERS. T&Y was a very welcome return to form for one of rap's premier conceptual writers; when he has a clear, concise idea of what he wants to execute, Lupe is lethal. Moments like Murals where he intentionally piles metaphors on top of more metaphors...and adds another layer of metaphors, are where you just have to sit back and enjoy the show. My problem is, there weren't as many moments of those scattered throughout the album. Most of the time I'm nodding my head like "Ah I see what you mean" and then the rest it's like "ok, but where are we going with it?". That's been my biggest gripe of Lupe post-The Cool, where he can't really bring his point home despite all the effort/build-up to get that full circle. Nevertheless, this is still a great album and an authoritative slam on the desk to Lu's biggest skeptics.
Jan 8, 2020 Idk man never understood why people overrated this album so much. Lupe is a solid MC but most of the times I found myself having trouble to enjoy most of his projects throughout and this is no exception. I can agree that its high moments are really good tho. 6.5/10 for me
Jan 8, 2020 3/10 horrible GarageBand production/Lupe at his worst I’d rather listen to lasers don’t know how people can listen to F&L and The Cool and rank this up there with those with a straight face
Jan 8, 2020 You’re the king of saying “music is subjective and can’t be judged” when someone says your taste in music is weird (post malone). But then you contradict yourself with posts like these lol.
Jan 8, 2020 Pizza man (peace of man) don’t come here no more (deliver!) I prefer the poppy Lasers album to this, but there are a few tracks I liked on this. Blur My Hands, Prisoner, the song with Ab-Soul. Not bad, but not great either. 6.5
Jan 8, 2020 guess i better explain myself. @Michael Myers its cool if you wanna terminate this pick. clearly it ain’t fit for it. up to you , you got the ok from me. peace
Jan 8, 2020 I'll give this another spin when I get a chance but on memory alone I'll give this a 7.5 outta 10. It was good, very good actually but justbsolutely not near the masterpieces that were F&L and The Cool. But the artistry was something else on this project, truly divine. You have to be in the right mood to appreciate this album.
Jan 8, 2020 The fiasco around this album and Anonymous' role in getting it to be released... wild times. I have a soft spot for this album and really do enjoy it. It's not on the same tier for me as his first two albums but still a vast improvement on Lasers and F&L2 imo. His career trajectory has had many peaks and troughs though. A massive 'what if' still lingers heavily around him on what he could've produced if given creative freedom early on. Little Death, Dots and Lines, Mural, Deliver are the main joints I enjoyed the most. 7.5/10
Jan 8, 2020 I don’t genuinely like post Malone, i was trolling about that because I know it’ll get a rise out of ppl I also understand ppl are going to disagree on music quality, but some ppl (not you Boos) take this s--- too seriously...big country and WPG take s--- like this personally By the way, I have views on what I think is good just like anyone...I just don’t think music is an easy thing to make an argument for
Jan 8, 2020 Nah man f--- that. I just checked and critics also praised this. Even those snobs from pitchfork liked it (not that I give a f---, but people on here seem to do). Just because a few people here are very vocal about saying its trash, does't mean they are right and others are wrong. This is no offence to the people hating it btw all I'm saying is that we had a handful of albums that are very popular on S80. There are gonna be a h--- of a lot more albums that are popular in general (or praised by critics) but will have this forum divided. That's whats making this fun, everyone being on the same page is cool but boring. I don't see that as a reason to simply stop and move on to another, because this is gonna happen more than once.
Jan 8, 2020 it sounds more like you take it personally because you bring this up every chance you get lol
Jan 8, 2020 When you stop catching feelings about it, that’s when I’ll stop bringing it up lol. Seriously though, your posts make it very obvious how serious you take it. For example, your post in this thread saying “this album f---ing sucks I don’t know why ppl praise it”. And there’s tons of examples of this. That’s how I knew all along that it’s super serious to you
Jan 8, 2020 2/10. This album is awful. Lupes failed attempt of living up to the cool. Garbage production. Fake deep raps. A case of trying too hard. Rather listen to LASERS than this and that album f---ing sucks too.
Jan 8, 2020 Timmy by your own definition you just "caught feelings" over people rating Watch the Throne as high as Black Star: We're on a rap forum—it's for arguing and disagreeing, no one's drifting off to sleep angrily thinking about a Lupe Fiasco album at the end of the day.
Jan 8, 2020 No I didn’t catch feelings, I just disagreed Catching feelings is banning me from a thread then attacking me personally and bringing up something that has nothing to do with the topic at hand...gee I wonder who’s guilty of that Lolol
