Jun 11, 2015 Yes, people didn't sign up on SL because of the hostility and because of the system. The vibe is totally different when you implement sth like that. To be clear, I can unterstand both sides (pro- and con-implementing), but I support the current system. And I don't support it because I'm a like-whor- (I'm not), but because this will support guests to sign up. And if you don't like the current members, you might like the future ones.
Jun 11, 2015 new members sign up daily and post...something that never happened on SL after the first 3 months...its cuz they can post without fearing getting dislikes you guys wont believe the amount of pms i used to get from people getting dislikes and negs..is it silly? yes...does it effect the forum growth? f--- yes
Jun 11, 2015 Interesting. I would have guessed it had more to do with the exposures. It was bad business but those first few months were pretty great. If you went at a mod you were getting exposed lol and I think we were all guilty of it. I think at one point even Dev One changed a poster's avatar to their hideous Facebook picture and their signature was made their IP address. LMAO terrible for building a website but those were some pretty fun times.
Jun 11, 2015 I didn't sign up on SL because of that (I actually did 2 months before it closed because it was basically dead and had 4 posts in total compared to my 1,7k posts here). Right here, I feel free to say everything what I want to express and that's sth I really appreciate. Imagine someone signing up and getting a dislike because someone doesn't like his avy and/or name (SL obv used to do that sometimes). He/she will probably have doubts of wanting to be active here. I'm happy with this system. But I'm happy as well that we're having this convo (it's essential for what S80 wants to be now and in the future).

I'm insinuating they shouldn't feel less than whoever disliked their post. not necessarily that they have to go back and dislike their post. s80 way too on edge with this positivity thing..adding dislikes just keeps things interesting. obviously there's room for abuse but doesn't that go for anything? see: flawlesst or ordinary joel. and if anything like happens, they get warned/moderated the same way
Jun 11, 2015 That's tricky, because even though people shouldn't take it personal, some people on the one hand take it personal and on the other hand some people like to rub it in like 'ha! now you have a dislike as well'. Sadly, it's impossible to change both. I still understand what you want to do. But once you give people the option to be 'evil' (even though disliking is not necessarily being evil, but sometimes it is), people will take the chance. If I was a moderator, I'd rather want to moderate people who are liking too much stuff than people who dislike too much stuff.

Jun 11, 2015 I know you're confident enough to not feel such pain, but imagine 100 totally different people signing up and some of them being rather insecure (which might change and most likely will if the vibes are right). Everbody starts small in the end. Those people shouldn't be scared away shortly after or even before signing up.
