yeah, dunno. i don't dislike him - he just doesn't do much for me... and i usually love dry standup. he started out as a writer right?

as a bit, i thought it fine, but i thought the hullabaloo surrounding cosby afterward was bs. as you know, im hypersensitive to such trends.

    hes such a stain

he was a staff writer on 30 rock...i think just for the fourth season? he told me he was just pitching jokes every day. he only has one credit, and it's a co-.

i don't think the uproar re: cosby is bs, i think he's more than likely a r--ist and he should be shamed for that.

Yeah, I have a theory about these writers (donald glover, john mulaney) that when they make the transition, sometimes it's like they acting like standups... or, rather, its one step removed from seeming totally natural/comfortable. hannibal isnt quite that selfconscious from what ive seen, but that might be part of it.

yeah, you know i just disagree with that approach RE: cosby on multiple fronts. nothing about that situation sits well with me, regardless of his guilt.

the biggest difference between you and i is that you gravitate toward that whole social fallout and i'm prioritizing the fact that he's a r--ist. i get where you're coming from, i just don't care quite as much. f--- him.

yeah i get what you mean but hannibal is and always has been a standup; he got the gig @ 30 rock because of that.

Likely true, although my sticking point is we cant know for sure. process is important. as you may know, we in boston are currently trying Tsarnaev. many would have slept fine if a vicious mob had seized him out of beth israel while he was recuperating and tossed him in the charles. after all, public opinion (and common sense) concluded he was guilty.

you may respond im conflating two diff situation to make a point - i am. but I think many are guilty of the same thing in the case of cosby (the outcry against r--- culture, anger at rich men seemingly living above the law, a disconcerting racial element).

I'll try to check out some more stuff

@captain awesome i do get where you're coming from, esp re: race. but i think, if we're treating this on a case-by-case basis, the argument against cosby is so damning that those fears are kind of quelled for me. i mean, what is it now, 35 women?

I'm glad to hear this was actually funny. I think Bieber's too easy/obvious of a target but I figured anything with Hannibal couldn't fail.

Keep in mind I don't watch a ton of standup, but Animal Furnace might be my personal favorite standup set of all time. Something about his style just clicks with me, it reminds me of how my friends and I bs with each other.

I've only seen one episode of Broad City (I enjoyed it, need to watch more), but he's the best part of Eric Andre and his verse is great on Dark Comedy too. "You a ho if your facebook is complicated" was my user title for like five months.

I mean.. yeah. Regardless, it's tragic there's a tendency in America to somehow find a way to assassinate the character of a significant % of black leaders. With that in mind, I'm just a little skeptical, and I know that puts me in the minority (and the difficult position of defending an accused r--ist, yikes).

Obviously its unlikely. But x number we don't know their names (troubling), x number likely crazy and could be/are discredited, x number bitter jilted exes, x seeking 15 minutes, etc. Not saying Cosby likely didn't behave inappropriately, or isn't a raging womanizing a------, but personally, i think the way we take someone who was so venerated (especially when theyre black) and cast them out is... troubling morally to me.

It's just dicey to shame people because you think they represent r--- culture lol, when likely they represent what happens when you spend 50 years as a lonely standup, cheating on your wife and building a ridiculous brand. the conversation was just disingenuous - way too gray for the public to think they have a reasonable grasp

anyway, im going to go cry and rewatch season 2 of the cosby show

Chank Smith > Paul Thompson the rapper.

f--- Bill Cosby. He is a bully and a r--ist. He represents the black community as much as OJ Simpson ever did which is not very much at all.

He "shamed" young comedians to try to change their stage act because he didn't care for their vernacular.

He bullied black athletes for not having high grades when he dropped out of Temple and got a bs degree for being famous and then made people call him "Doctor" to make himself more important than he was.

The f---ing audacity for a r--ist to say a kid who got shot over stealing a pound cake would deserve to die.

He's the one that needs to pull his pants up and stop raping woman. I hope he f---ing dies soon.

Don't even know where in that post that I commented on the Black Experience.
You do realize there is a sizeable black population in the city of Anchorage, right? I'm a pillar in that community. I rent a handful of homes to black families and go to a predominantly black church, which is obviously besides the point.

Bill Cosby is a bully. He used his affluence and perceived moral high ground to censor younger comedians. He's a phony that tricked the world into believing he was a doctor and a great dad and husband who could do no wrong. When in fact he is a college dropout, philandering sexual predator.

You shouldn't look up to him and neither should black people.
