I'm not a "real rap" guy, I just happen to really like run the jewels among other artists and calling them trash is nonsense.
Apr 10, 2017 Enjoyed RTJ2 when it came out and still enjoy a few select songs off it but now it just makes me cringe, RTJ1 and RTJ3 are also f---ing garbage and Killer Mike renegades the majority of their songs.
Apr 10, 2017 I wouldn't call them trash. Just kind of calculated to be easily consumable for the type of people who anxiously await for Pitchfork to announce their next Best New Music inductee. I think P and Mike are perfectly aware of what they're doing and what kind of music they can make that will resonate with these people. They consciously write memey punchlines about sticking their nuts in piranha tanks, do funny Christmas sweater photoshoots, and crowdfund an album remix using nothing but cat sounding. A niche dystopian backpack rapper and a chicken fried southern gospel rapper started dressing like cool kids and everybody bought into it. Good for them. Smart business. Purposefully limited dynamic.
