Feb 4, 2015 http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...dios-are-too-afraid-to-play-him-10005412.html that cosign
Feb 4, 2015 Right, but it gets radio play no? So if it flopped commercially is it because of the quality of the track? Or that the audience is to stupid and needs bubble gum rap? What's McDaniels getting at? Again, playing devil's advocate.
Feb 4, 2015 Good question. McDaniels is pretty vague but I think he's speaking to a larger issue that a lot of people have with mainstream radio that they don't play anything that's too far outside the box anymore, unless it's in really high demand. I don't know if he's necessarily done his research though because Swimming Pools charted as high as 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not that that chart is the end all, be all but its one measurable. Kendrick has charted pretty well in general. http://www.billboard.com/artist/305702/kendrick-lamar/chart In general though, the radio is scared of anything outside of the box. Really anything that isn't "pop."
Feb 5, 2015 mad co-sign but the bit about radios doesn't sound right. Kendrick gets mad radio play here in Aus. Literally just heard "i" on the radio like an hour ago.
Feb 5, 2015 I hear it occasionally here in australia, but before 'i' i literally never heard kendrick on the radio, and i only hear 'i' being played once every week or two...
Feb 5, 2015 legit? a few months after GKMC came out, i was hearing money trees a bit, swimming pools everyday nearly and a couple of other songs of the album occasionally. cartoon & cereal got mad play too.
Feb 5, 2015 Well i hear swimming pools and money trees now and then at parties and clubs, but ive never heard them on radio before, not mainstream radio at least...
Feb 5, 2015 true, i've heard them at few clubs. but yeah like, for the amount of rap on the radio (not much) kendrick was killing it for a while.
Feb 5, 2015 Well it was nice to hear some kendrick in between every 100 or so plays of iggy azalea and 360
Feb 10, 2015 'i' gets played a lot by stations in az.. maybe cause we close to cali? back in the day swimming pools got more air play than big seans 'i don't f--- with you' gets now, and i feel like thats all i hear nowadays.. that and taylor swifts shake it off or blank space.. yo taylors nice tho.. s----s catchy
