I don't really have a stronger argument than that, I actually loved it :'(

I just think I like Boyhood, Grand Budapest, Nightcrawler and a few others more.

can't really comment - I missed a lot of films this past year.

    my favorites are

    boyhood
    grand budapest hotel
    nightcrawler
    interstellar
    gone girl
    snowpiercer
    the immigrant
    guardians of the galaxy
    foxcatcher

    in no order

i really want to see birdman, selma, and inherent vice. and whiplash

edit: and under the skin of course. forgot to mention it lol

Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I found both Foxcatcher and Whiplash to be extremely underwhelming given all of the praise they have received. As much as they're solid, performance driven dramas that mostly accomplish what they set out do, I doubt I'll be thinking much about them in a few weeks time. There's no heart or charisma to anything or anybody in Foxcatcher, and for how alive the music makes Whiplash feel, both of the main characters remain entirely unpleasant to watch and k--- whatever sympathy I should have had for them given the nature of who the characters were.

Both above average (don't want it to sound like I didn't like them, because I did), just nothing special and ultimately undeserving of all the attention that has been given to them. Have Whiplash in the #24 spot for 2014, and Foxcatcher in the #31 spot.

All three leads in Foxcatcher were brilliant but the film isn't sticking with me like I hoped it would. It was missing something I can't quite put my finger on.

I like Whiplash less and less the more I think about it and I'm starting to resent Foxcatcher.

Last ten minutes and Simmons/Teller are great.

About all I can say for Whiplash.

And I'm liking it less and less the more I think about it. A lot can change in 48 hours. Have way too many issues with the overall message and contrivances to even say I like it on a personal level at this point.

EDIT: It's undeniably well made on a technical level and I would be lying if I said I wasn't thoroughly entertained by it. Just very confused by all the love it's getting and my problems with it are too much to give it a pass just based on how well crafted it is.

For a long time it was hard for me not to watch JK Simmons and not think of him as a neo nazi.

Welllllllll... it's a deliberately removed film. I get what you're saying, it lacks Sorkin's punchy Moneyball dialogue. But Miller is such a great director of the character study. Capote-Moneyball-Foxcatcher taken together ---> holy trinity of the American experience
