    It's a 2011 iMac 27'. The video/graphics card shat itself and the screen won't work. They said the card is in the motherboard so might as well buy a new computer instead of replacing the mother board with other possible failing components.

    I'm pretty sure Apple plants an internal time bomb on it's products to last around a 5 year cycle and suddenly stop working without warning so you can go buy another one

    yeah i think data retrieval on mac's is a bit more difficult than a PC. but yeah that's right, nearly every laptop/mac have everything in the motherboard, which is why people don't buy and upgrade laptops the way they would a PC.

    from what I just read on google though, apparently imac's have the same process it just has to be done on mac's exclusively.
    >remove hard drive
    >plug hard drive in adapter
    >plug adapter into a mac

    100%. not sure how, but likely soldering.
    Ps3's/xbox360's were definitely made with a different ratio of metals (to save money). But in Aus it meant that after time the soldering would melt or crack from rapid cooling after a while. the excuse was "it was only climate tested in Asia and nowhere else!" but that seemed bs to me, cause their standard warranty just so happened to expire after the consoles soldering f---s up. Or, when the new "slim" or whatever console is released.
