Great, unique list and write-ups @FilmAndWhisky There's still quite a few I have to see though, most notably Mommy (comes out here this week), Phoenix and Journey to the West.

Two Days, One Night, Mommy, and Still Alice are like the only films left to see that I care about.

pretty happy with my list as it is though, I think 2014 ended up being a much better year than I initially realized

Loved all the comic book films this year except ASM2.
Birdman, Whiplash, Gone Girl, and Interstellar were great. I think American Sniper might shut out the Oscar this year though.

Finally saw Two Days One Night. Slight, but rewarding. Very low key naturalism. Marion is obviously great. Happy she squeezed into that Best Actress race -- we need more offbeat, female-driven films getting high profile establishment lurrrrrve

To be fair tho, Gone Girl is getting really underrated.

Gone Girl will end up in my final top ten, but it's far from underrated. Thought it was universally considered to be, at the very least, a very good film.
