Feb 16, 2022 Kendrick wasn’t popular in the 2000s by any means whatsoever whether he worked with The Game or not. I did not ‘blame’ anyone neither, I’m just stating what’s true which is that the culture shifted to the South which I’m now saying for the 3rd time. Learn to read.
Feb 17, 2022 I know it did, but thats cause the other places s----d. The West was dead when Game blew up. Even Kendrick said it in GKMC. Only Snoop was doing good, and that's every now and then cause he drops a lot of mid.
Feb 17, 2022 He’s not blaming the south he’s just telling you that you’re wrong that Game single-handedly ran the west coast when hyphy and Bay Area rap was immensely popular in the 2000s as well. also e-40 / Mac dre / andre nickatina / too short / etc > > > > game and it’s not even remotely close
Feb 17, 2022 Pop was the reigning king of New York but there’s still tons of other great drill artists coming out of New York as well
Feb 17, 2022 Not to mention Snoop was in his Neptunes era which is prob his greatest era after the OG death row era. Maybe tied for second with no limit era at worst
Feb 17, 2022 How can people who don't live in the USA possibly know "who ran The West" in the first decade of the 2000s lol. I as a European can confidently say that I had no idea what was going on
Feb 17, 2022 this. as much as i am a US hip hop nerd, us outsiders sometimes we gotta learn to shut up and listen.
Feb 17, 2022 Exactly. Ok nowadays you can use Twitter and might get a minimal grasp on who's currently popping and maybe take a look at the views of music videos on Youtube, but that's still not a metric on who's actually super popular. You have to live there, go to local clubs, talk to people, listen to radio stations and just catch the overall vibe to really know which artists, let it be new ones or old ones, are really ominpresent in that specific area.
Feb 17, 2022 Those guys weren't big back then lol at least not in the mainstream where it went from Snoop, to Game, to Kendrick. Those were the big 3 until YG blew up.
Feb 17, 2022 Mac dre and e-40 are two of the most original stylists in rap ever. Mac Dre is beloved and has a HUGE cult fanbase, even Drake has shouted him on songs. E-40 was going platinum. Too Short dropped Blow the Whistle in 2006. Andre Nickatina still tours up and down the west coast on music from this era. He would come to my college town on 4/20 every year and would sell out every time. I lived on the west coast for the first 28 years of my life and this is what people were listening to. I'm not saying Game wasn't popular too but the idea that he was the only one is just wrong/revisionist history.
Feb 17, 2022 I'm talking bigger, Snoop, Game and Kendrick were they big guys back then. And between Snoop and Kendrick, Game saved the West (at least for the mainstream)
Feb 17, 2022 Stop moving the goal posts lol. If you're going by mainstream alone then why are you including kendrick? Even in LA barely anyone knew who he was in 2005. E-40's record went platinum and had higher selling singles than game (one plat and one gold vs game's two gold...game's singles had both 50 features and dre production and still didn't outsell e-40's)
Feb 17, 2022 What about "Bishop lamont"? I know he was only active in the mixtape-game since he never dropped his aftermath album, but did people know him?
Feb 17, 2022 not unless they posted on rap basement lol but on the real I never heard anyone talk about him outside of rap internet, no idea how popular he was or wasn't in LA at the time though
