Dec 28, 2014 I'd throw Shady XV a few digits down. Like MMLP2, his album gets worse eah listen. I'd put FHD anywhere between 7-8.5
Dec 28, 2014 Bruh.. let me start off by saying we are both being thick headed and arrogant. Just from the opposite ends of the spectrum. I respect young thug. All I'm saying is, is that if you like young thug enough to put him as your avy you obviously a. f--- with him heavily and b. like a certain type of hip hop i.e. trap, club s---. I knew you would misunderstand what I was trying to say about the listening to an album from front to back. (maybe I did a poor job explaining.) I meant when I'm at home listening to music. Whether I'm doing homework or just chillin, I will never play a thugger album from front to back. I will at most play 3-5 songs in a row. His music only fits certain situations and moods. I can't sit and bump his s--- back to back to back or for hours. I have listened to his new mixtapes and the one with quan. Sorry I have not taken the time to listen to thugs whole f---ing discography, over 100 or so songs. Like I said I don't think he's worth my time. If you heard 5 songs of young thug you can bet your a--- they sound like over 75% of his material. For someone who claims to listen to a wide variety of rappers outside the mainstream you sure do care what the media thinks about their albums. RTJ is a sub par album and in a weak yr made it into top 5's when in yrs past it would have easily been left out. That Boosie song isn't that bad. Once again, as a whole that project isn't worth the time of listening to it multiple times and sorting out the 2 gems it has. I have better music to play. Yes I have pre conceived notions about rappers that allow me to filter thru the s--- music. Something you don't seem to be capable of. I like some mainstream artists Drake, Kanye, Cole, Kendrick etc but also like others who are more creative than f---ing young thug, like Mac miller, travis scott, childish gambino. I don't consider two aging out of their prime rappers to be the staple of hip hop anymore. I don't want this site to be over run by em and cole stans either man. You saying people aren't open minded, intelligent and illogical without even knowing them is pretty ignorant. I'm one of the most open minded people you would ever meet
Dec 28, 2014 get the f--- out of here with that. How? Show me. I've only made a few posts on this topic, so point it out. I'm going out of my way to be reasonable - nothing I've said was as thickheaded as the last post of yours I had to shift through. Don't drag me into ur s--- to cover for yourself lol. And me liking that somehow stops me from liking other things? Was I somehow only listening to "trap and club s---" my entire life, before young thug was even a thing? Were you not on SL? Am I not making a top 15 Kendrick verses list for this site as we speak? Do you ACTUALLY know that my taste in hip hop is as limited as you want it to be, or are you just making things up? As for Thug, yeah, he's without a DOUBT my favorite of the year. He has a variety of music. Or maybe I'm just always in the mood for good music, idk And? Every reputable source I've seen calls it mixtape of the year. Even without that, it's clearly some of the most creative/interesting/entertaining music that's come out in years. So what's there to hate? How does liking something that's actually good, take away from my ability to judge other things? I would like to place one bet on said a--- (pause) You're talking out your a--- again. RTJ came out last year, and it was on EVERY top 10 list out there. And pretty much every critic rates RTJ 2 higher than that. So uhhhhhhh was last here horrible too? The entire project is at least that good. So you should probably give it a try. Because if you're gonna complain about having to actually search for good music, I wouldn't ignore it when it's given to you on a silver platter lol. whaa? what is this based on? Lmao you know how much Scott and Thug work together? I could probably guarantee Scott is influenced by Thug. Mac Miller's been doing GREAT. I'm a huge fan of dude. Gambino had a great album last year and a horrible mixtape this year. But I was talking in general, not targeting anyone. Cept your posts really do show otherwise. I'd read over what you wrote the last few posts if you don't believe me.
Dec 28, 2014 Big Brit - Badillactica and J bole higher than MKL??? ... Well at least that prhyme/shadXV s--- didn't make the list proud to say s80's top 5 are all albums I can respect.
Dec 28, 2014 If you think those guys aren't more creative than young thug you're the one who is a terrible judge of rap music
Dec 28, 2014 I'm not trying to cover my own a---, I'm being fair and saying we both are thick headed, which can be seen in both of our posts. You not being able to see it is a great example. Take a step back and smell the roses man. Young thug is a generic trap rapper. He is a straight up wayne clone and has probably contributed heavily to the whole Wayne Baby beef. Him and Migos aren't influencing the entire genre of hip hop, just trap, because no one else is doing it good right now. He's doing exactly what every other mainstream trap rapper has done before him. Trap has been big for at least the past 5 years. Once again I like Thuggers music. I respect it for what it is and what he does for the genre. I was talking about RTJ2. I just forgot the 2... You were saying that FHD would barely be in your top 20 of albums this year.... My view is that there are not even close to 20 projects this year that are better than FHD because the quality of music this year was down overall. If you have to search high and low for "good" hip hop then it was a down year. I usually know whats going on in hip hop scene and what projects to check out and there wasn't enough good buzz around many of these projects to justify checking them out. Travis and Thug work together and probably influence each other a lot. The difference with Scott is he is trying to innovate with the trap sound more so than Thugger in my opinion. Travis Scott was def my favorite artist this year. Can you point out some specific good Young Thug songs that are different and good? I'd love to bump some good Thugger music I may not have been exposed to
Dec 28, 2014 someone who champions travis scott and says there weren't 20 good projects this year is trying to educate us can we start a new forum plz the sheer stupidity of calling young thug a "generic trap rapper" when he is neither generic nor a trap rapper is hilarious. he's the most forward-thinking, innovative guy in the entire genre right now; what about him is generic? how are migos not influential when people up to and including jay z and drake (two of the three biggest rappers in the world) are biting their flow? how did you let thug and quan make a ninety-minute tape that has these stark emotional peaks and valleys, this quiet, burdened humanity, then say they only make "a certain type of music for certain settings?" so dude, you don't know what you're talking about. you don't even know what trap music is, for starters. thug writes and raps in ways that we literally have not seen before, and this is coming from someone who probably listens to way, way more rap than you do. guys like travis scott are literally parroting back things that are currently popular. if you think he's innovating it's just because you're ignorant to his influences. and rtj2 isn't my album of the year, but to call it subpar while you push j cole is embarrassing and you should go sit quietly somewhere. EDIT: just saw what you said about boosie. boosie is one of the greatest rappers to ever live and is currently operating very near the peak of his abilities. but sure, yeah, childish gambino is better.
Dec 28, 2014 @Hasman i know you were bound to the voting and so i'm not giving you s--- for cole winning, but "no role modelz" is one of the most sexist, paternalistic songs i've ever heard. why would you highlight that?
Dec 28, 2014 I wanted to choose 2 songs at opposite ends, most times when I give someone a sample of something I want there to be variety. The second verse of 03 Adolescence was Cole's best moment on the album to me. It's his best story telling joint since 2 Face. And then you have No Role Modelz. It's the most accessible song on the album in my opinion outside of Apparently. But then Apparently has that flop of a second verse, so I didn't want to include that. Edit: I guess theres Hello too but I'd rather listen to the second verse of Apparently on repeat before I played this song
Dec 28, 2014 Me not agreeing with you that I'm thickheaded, makes me thickheaded? Are you f---ing r-----ed, lol There have only been like 3 posts back and forth between us, and since you're accusing me I asked you in the last post to point out where I'm being thickheaded. As in where I'm stating and opinion and not defending it, or blatantly ignoring your reasoning for a point - all of which YOU are actually doing Wrong, there is literally nothing generic about him. If there is, point out other artists that sound like him. He's heavily influenced by wayne, but if you want to point out where Wayne sounded like young thug in 2014, before, you know, 2014, go ahead. Thugger has repeatedly stated Wayne is his favorite rapper of all time, and that he's greatly influenced by the dude. But if anything, Thug is the one bringing Wayne back. Lol I secretly believe this as well tbh Eminem and the Shady co. are trap huh? Or are they just bitting Migos on Shady XV because they're desperate? Prove it. Give me examples. Just because you keep saying this, doesn't mean what you know what you're talking about lol. I KNOW you were taking about 2 lmao. My point was that how is RTJ 2 overrated because it was a "light year" when RTJ one was on every top 10 list last year, and EVERY critic claims RTJ2 is undeniably better. So was last year a bad year as well? ok. um, that entire camp, from the young a--- producers like Metro Boomin to LondonOnDaTrack, from the young a--- rappers like Rich Homie to Thug, are ALL innovating, continuously. And it's not. just. trap. What have you heard?
Dec 28, 2014 see THIS I can't say lmao. I said 20 because it actually is somewhere in my top 20, probably (if I actually ever made a top 20). But I'm also not a professional critic like you so I've obviously heard less projects. Young Thug's also taken up so much of my time this year that I barely even had the energy to find the other sleepers - but even then I've apparently heard more album than some people in here. p.s. thank god im not the only one defending thug in here anymore. it's been like the twilight zone the last few weeks with all the J cole love/hate for artists I actually love. You and @M.I.C. were no where to be found lol
Dec 28, 2014 dat HiiiPower beat had me like when i first heard it edit: @Hasman what did Cole produce for FHD?
