Hey don't get me wrong, I actually like the album. Love the tracks you mentioned, Psychopath Killer is incredible. I was just commenting on certain things.

actually i use the same technique while mixing vocals for people lol.. the way dre mixed & mastered the dubs was flawless, normally you listen to a rap album & the dubs stand out, cutting the low end of the dubs seems to baffle the engineers.

they did the same thing for the cxvpher

em spit the verse twice, once for a groundcam and once for a handycam

then they picked the best cut of each bar

    this is very common

it lets em decide exactly how he wants his point delivered

    I don't understand the problem

it's an extremely simple process of layering the second take over the first and either keeping or removing segments of the former

wtf has got you people so confused

Dude we are talking about completely different things... The cypher vocals weren't doubled/layered. Yeah I get that multiple takes were used but they were simply strung together, not layered. In TES songs, his vocals are layered multiple times, each with it's own infection. But it was more the arrangement of the layers that I found impressive. You can tell Dre must have spent a LOT of time on it all.

well I can usually judge whether he wrote a rhyme or not instantly but I mean that sounds like his voice. there's enoigh unreleased s--- out there it's certainly possible but there are so many people who try to sound like him and copypasta it everywhere so who really knows I guess

The layering of his vocals on TES made his voice sound so powerful. I wish he'd do it again. I did notice he did it a bit on Psychopath Killer and Die Alone. Without the layers, the vocals sound kind of... ehh. I don't know. Just my personal opinion.

aRE WE OVER EMPYHAISING THE 'LAYERING' OF HIS VOICE HERE?? i MEAN IS HIS VOICE/TONE SIMPLY NOT AS STRONG as it once was DUE TO simply GETTING A FAIR BIT OLDER??

oN A LOT OF THE NEW MATERIAL, HIS VOCALS SOUND SO FAINT. nOw IM NO PRODUCER/ENGINEEER BUT IS THAT REALLY ANYTHING TO DO WITH MASTERING AND LAYERING, OR IS HIS VOICE JUST A BIT DIFFERENT NOW??

mmlp2 AND sHADY xv VOICE SOUNDS A A LOT LESS POWERFUL.

pEOPLE COMPLAINED ABOUT HIM SHOUTING ON RECOVERY?? I thought the vocals on Recovery were a lot better than on MMLP2 and Shady XV.

It's 100% to do with the mixing/layering. His vocals on his earlier stuff were not compressed anywhere near as much as they are now, and that's mainly due to trends in mixing over the years. They were a lot more natural and had much more dynamic range. His vocals these days are compressed the h--- out of, which is why they sound more in your face and harsh.

These days he goes from speaking voice to shouting a lot during verses, which is why the louder parts sound so crap.
