    This thread jumped like 4 pages and I don't know what's been said but I'll expand on my first post-

    We live in world that has some individuals like Zuckerberg, Bezos and Musk who possess an otherworldly and seemingly endless amount of drive and ambition. And for them it'll never be enough but ultimately that's just how they're wired.

    On the flipside for every one of those types there are a million others whose ambition begins and ends with waking up, smoking pot and watching Netflix. And those people are more than content with what they have. They might b---- and complain that they want more but you d--- sure don't see them taking the actions to do so.

    I don't feel the people who earned their fortunes should be punished because of other's laziness and/or bad luck.

    I don't know... it's a very flawed system and it'll never be perfect but I feel that when you cap the amount of money people can earn you're potentially capping ambition as well.

    And I don't want to live in a world where that happens.

    Blowing up fireworks and planning to send rich people to Mars to escape the climate crisis they themselves wrought? Running a failing car company that uses electricity generated from coal and natural gas instead of gasoline? Doing LSD and committing stock fraud via Twitter? Drilling holes for maglevs that transport rich people?

    lol you would know what to do with yourself real quick. I remember when I bartended and when I got my first job making 45K I thought that was a lot, and couldn't imagine making over 60K. Then I made over 60K and couldn't imagine what it would like making more than 75K, and so on and so on. The more money you make the more you upgrade your life. You want a better car, a better place, you have more bills...6 figures isn't a lot. I would imagine being a millionaire I would feel the same exact way at some point where it wasn't enough

    We punish people for being poor all the time. Greed is the character trait considered a bad thing even sinful to the religious. Also, we aren't even debating punishing them. This is simply a redistribution.

    They should absolutely be punished as well though. Good point.

    Of course I’d splurge on some s--- if I instantly became a billionaire. Of course I’d upgrade my life beyond my five figure salary. Anyone would. But as I’ve said a billion dollars is unfathomably large. I could blow 10 mil on a vacation and still have 990 mil which is bonkers. With that kind of money you could do insane good in the world while still living an insanely great/privileged lifestyle. I’m not trying to pretend I’m 100% selfless and would instantly donate it all to charity. I’d hire someone who knows more about money than me to help figure out how it could best be spent/donated (and of course in this hypothetical situation it depends if this is a one time billion dollar payout or if I’m a “perpetual” billionaire).

    Also, rich people also do drugs and watch movies. Not sure why you think the destitute peoples in need of healthcare/housing/food are the average dude in a Spencer's gift shop.
