Nov 21, 2018 Elon Musk is one of the “good” billionaires & for every one of him, there’s probably like 10 billionaires that don’t give a s--- about the environment/working class people.
Nov 21, 2018 close-minded tbh. love when people say that something will "never" be practical or become a reality. technology is going to progress faster in the next 20 years than it has the past 1000. i don't care if it's the rich or the poor driving in tunnels -- either way, you're dispersing the existing traffic. the horror of making it a premium. hyperloop has been left off of this conversation, but there's your high speed "rail" system that he's also working on as part of the drilling/digging.
Nov 21, 2018 You honestly believe transporting multiple billions off of this planet will ever be feasible? That s--- doesn't even happen in movies. We haven't even dreamed that far. The capital put to those ends would better be put towards a sustainable existence here. There is a ticking clock on climate change. Straighten your priorities out. So we need a billionaire genius to drill a tunnel from his home to his office when subways and high speed rail have been around forever and are done much more cheaply elsewhere? I don't understand where the "innovation" comes in besides him wanting for these systems to be car-friendly out of his own self interest and disdain for his fellow man. Car companies are the reason our country doesn't have a vast high speed rail infrastructure already. Just another case of Silicon Valley trying to innovate around problems that already have practical solutions.
Nov 21, 2018 This thread jumped like 4 pages and I don't know what's been said but I'll expand on my first post- We live in world that has some individuals like Zuckerberg, Bezos and Musk who possess an otherworldly and seemingly endless amount of drive and ambition. And for them it'll never be enough but ultimately that's just how they're wired. On the flipside for every one of those types there are a million others whose ambition begins and ends with waking up, smoking pot and watching Netflix. And those people are more than content with what they have. They might b---- and complain that they want more but you d--- sure don't see them taking the actions to do so. I don't feel the people who earned their fortunes should be punished because of other's laziness and/or bad luck. I don't know... it's a very flawed system and it'll never be perfect but I feel that when you cap the amount of money people can earn you're potentially capping ambition as well. And I don't want to live in a world where that happens.
Nov 21, 2018 h--- no, no one should have more money than i have. Billionaires and millionaires should all just die tbh.
Nov 21, 2018 Oh for sure, that was an exaggeration. There’s a lot I could do if I made 100k a year, it was more meant to show just how insanely large a billion dollars is. I know there’s been studies that show at something like 100-150k/year people’s happiness generally doesn’t increase with more money. But I’ve never made a lot of money so I don’t know how it would affect me personally.
Nov 21, 2018 Concept: we can combat climate change & fund space programs. Obviously the prior should be prioritized but I don’t know why Charlie is making it seem like it has to be one or the other.
Nov 21, 2018 I don’t think he’s evil. I’m torn on him. He’s just easy to make fun of. He’s even got his own smoking pic meme like @dna hits
Nov 21, 2018 Making somebody a nine-hundred-and-ninety-nine-millionaire isn't a punishment lol. Also, rich people also do drugs and watch movies. Not sure why you think the destitute peoples in need of healthcare/housing/food are the average dude in a Spencer's gift shop.
Nov 21, 2018 a "significant amount of people" <> billions i do think we'll see thousands -> hundreds of thousands last statement doesn't have any merit. could easily argue that we don't have a high speed rail system because our government has their head up their a--- -- not because we have car companies. that sounds conspiracy.
Nov 21, 2018 two words fam: generational wealth As a billionaire your money is your bloodlines money, and all the employment they create through inheritence of the industry they are in literally betters the future of the nation and of the people in it Billionaires do more to keep people out of poverty than most governments do. The most cruel governments have ironically been those where billionaires cannot exist. They arent perfect but they are a necessity.
Nov 21, 2018 and here i was claiming the american individualist weirdo was a stereotype this thread leaves me speechless tbh thinking that mark zuckerberg, jeff bezos are whatever are more important persons than public nurses, teachers, or whatever essential yet under-payed job with zero recognition is just crazy f--- billionaires and f--- "businessmen", what kind of activity is that, come on, do something with your life
Nov 21, 2018 s--- I’m all for billionaires being forced to give me money but once I hit a billion y’all can starve to death not my job to feed you
Nov 21, 2018 also what kind of "ambition" is making a lot of money????????????? lol educate yourself! write a novel! be a good person!
Nov 21, 2018 "what do you want to do with the time you have on earth?" "i want to earn millions of dollars!" "wow that's ambitious"
