Jul 30, 2020 did you guys notice he said "one thou-wow" lol to me ranking rappers by discography is a bad method. biggie has 2 albums. there's no way you can compare that to someone like jay-z who has over 10. outkast is awesome but had they made more than just 5 albums they would very likely have some weak ones. this is why i hate the idea that "eminem's legacy is tarnished because of some of the albums he put out in the last decade". naturally when an artist keeps making music over and over again they are going to have some average or even below average records. there are legendary artists in music that have made 20 albums or more and obviously there are several weak ones. but the point is the great stuff they crafted is what raised them to legendary status in the first place
Jul 30, 2020 Agree. Em wouldn't be as big as he is without Dre. Aftermath/Dre would not have been so big/ popular without Em. They needed each other.
Jul 30, 2020 Future’s one of the most influential rappers ever and one of the greatest to ever do it. At this point in his career he can easily slide into a top 10 list.
Jul 30, 2020 You know, I realized that my post sounded like I was referring to my own post... idk why I did that bc I dead a--- meant snoop not being able to have an opinion lol whooooops.
Jul 30, 2020 1. Rap is largely a black American art form that reflects black American struggles. Class plays a huge part but the fact of the matter is that black and white Americans have different experiences regardless of class. No one is saying poor white people don't struggle 2. Don’t you live in Australia? You can’t equate two different countries with two different histories and I’m pretty sure you guys genocided and segregated most of your black people already so idk why you’re bringing that up
Jul 30, 2020 Snoop has always been dismissive of Eminem IMO, b---- Please sequel aside. This isn't the first time he's diminished him, or his place in rap. Could be interpersonal, could be skin, idk. @Donkey Kong Cuntry has a point though - rap's mostly been about spotlighting the black experience in America. Though that bottomline sometimes undercuts the role of international, latino voices too IMO. So it's not wholllllllllllly African American. And, as its been said, Eminem represented a LMC and working class segment of hip hop in a way that , sayy, Beastie Boys never did, and even some black artists didnt. So, i dunno, it's a tent. I think Snoop is being fair in his assessment - ten is a finite number - but he's also clearly being a dusty HHH, and it's twinged with that somewhat-jealous eyeroll sensation of a peer who probably finds the cultish hype around Em annoying. Also, I think the strike against Future is he's kind of like an R&B infused rap hybrid. To me anyway. Feels weird to put him in the same category as KRS etc. Just my take.
Jul 30, 2020 1) this is Asher Roth erasure!!!! 2) Don't think your take on Future is fair. Future definitely leans on elements of R&B, but that's hip-hop now. He might sound alien compared to hip-hop from 2001, sure, but the genre has evolved so much since then. Any serious critical look at the genre needs to take that into account
Jul 30, 2020 Yup this is what I was about to post. Hip-hop's barriers have widened and morphed so much since KRS-1. In the 70s people thought recording hip-hop made it not hip-hop cuz it was supposed to be done live with a DJ.
Jul 30, 2020 totally fair. i do think the embrace of melody, tech etc makes it a diff beast, or at least important to be understood from the greater history of black r&b artists, how that specific prism has evolved and co-opted hip hop. and ofc, important to not be didactic i get that but i dunno he just has a diff energy that makes me think the subgenre he pioneered should be viewed in a separate or updated lens. i hold drake in a similar but diff box as well.
Jul 30, 2020 Snoop a hater, but everyone has their own list. None of those artists he named was able to stay relevant and skilled for as long as Em has. If Em wouldn't have redeemed himself the last couple of years, would have been a different story..
Jul 30, 2020 betray? nah he's speaking his mind and his opinion, albeit a bit aggressively. you don't HAVE to have Em in your top lists to respect him. Snoop has made it clear over the years that he respects Em. He even posted a pic of them together months ago. to take any malice out of this is a bit ridiculous. when has eminem ever put Snoop in his top 5 list?
Jul 30, 2020 About the race thing I definitely disagree, especially when it comes to Eminem. But its fine not to have him in ur top 10. To me he's top 15 at least but if u are 50 its not weird u like 80's rappers etc more. So it makes sense not to have him in ur top 10.
Jul 30, 2020 Snoop wouldn't put Future in his top 10 at all either. He actually ripped him and migos apart lol
Jul 30, 2020 Mfers could've just mention their top rappers but noooo Had to amplify how Eminem is not their on this list. Noticed this pattern on lot of the old heads and people who struggling for relevance like that one detroit Rapper who said no one listens to Em in Detroit. These guys know that's what get the clicks.
