May 21, 2020And current em started sounding like he’s having fun again in a modern era. The issue is his creativity is influenced from outside influences instead of what’s in his head. He needs to be cut off from ppl and create based on what he feels. Everything he does now is for a fan base that keeps changing their expectations
like d--- n-----, youre Eminem... just rap bro. Have fun. When he’s having fun (a lot of the latest release showed that).
A lot of it is based around his confidence which I feel he’s been getting back slowly, but surely. I think he’s progressed well since mmlp2, and honestly - I think he has another classic in him. The writing is there, it’s the influences and artistic inspiration is the issue. He needs to work with one producer pack, sit and storm ideas for a cohesive project. He could shock ppl by pulling a Kenny beats tape off, and at this point in his career, he needs to seek out these guys bc Dre is lost himself

I think MTBMB was kind of meant to be a relapse 2. He couldn’t have some of the songs that fit the theme on the album due to sample issuesBlueWorldOrder, BIGFOOT, ETERNAL and 3 others like this. -

Relapse has always been my favorite, even above his first three, though I recognize it's not technically as good as those albums.
It's basically the final, evanescing parts of the old Em, just before he made Recovery and changed himself for good, as much as he may have tried to "go back to the past" in various ways on MMLP2 and Kamikaze. Relapse is basically a perfect storm to me, with a great concept that Em actually executes with conviction, unlike the half-trying half-not approach with Encore and the unfocused horrorcore/murder themes of MTBMB, and a cohesive sound thanks to all Dre beats (when Dre still sounded like himself) and Em not changing his flow all the time.
Em actually still sounded dope. He said s--- like "Ain't he raw? Yeah, maniac, that Shady, dawg. Man that MFer's gangsta, ain't he dawg?" Not a particularly clever line, but it's absolute fire to me because he's saying it ironically and still radiates confidence. Those have always been my favorite kinds of Em lines, the ones where he just sounds vicious or confident in his delivery because he knows the line is good. That's what MAKES it good. Other examples of this are on Vegas when he says "Bet you if you give this old dog these new tricks to get familiar with I'll learn extra quick. Kick a pregnant b----, oops, I guess the s--- took an unexpected twist like the neck of the freaking exorcist," and on Lord Above when he says "You sent me that plaque with his rhyme sheet, I haven't forgot. Blow 30 million in a month, call it Brewster's Millions." I don't know if anyone knows what I mean by this, but just perfect delivery to me, and I find that kind of thing on Relapse more than any album since.
The accent is fine, adds to the experience to me. The s--- about him being molested as a kid is a bit weird, but the stuff about him raping and killing women is only as off-putting as it's meant to be. There are occasional moments on the album where the drug-addled fantasy falls away, like the second verse of 3 AM where Em talks about what he's REALLY been doing the last couple of years - sitting on the couch all day, finding a woman on the TV to jerk off to and c-mming on the wall. That s---'s among the most disturbing stuff on the album to me, for how real it is. Only Eminem could pull this off, and he probably couldn't today.
So, essentially, not as good as the first three, but I always rank it as number one on my list anyway. Unlike any other album.Mudkip, asvdawg, Guma and 1 other person like this. -

So it's weirdly aged well. Ofc people here and elsewhere savagely hated on it when it came out bc it wasnt Eminem Show or whatever. So he pivoted and those subsequent albums have aged much worse. The accent (and incessant r--- fantasy s---) does get redundant to me but it's so singular, even now. The "mumble" crowd would and could nevvvvvverrrr. Drake either lol etcGuma, Ids5621, Zeugma and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -
