I definitely feel that way in regards to the sound of his voice and flow. Like the SSLP style of rapping was dope :stephena:but then you get the MMLP and you're like holy s--- :whew: and then you get TES and the 8 Mile Soundtrack :dead:

As far as technical skill and rhyming ability I agree. But he fell off hard in other spots. Namely content and flow.

well anyone who says he's not rhyming better is kidding themselves but I disagree completely about the content and flow. for example drug ballad is about one thing, drugs. an argument could also be made that the track is an extremely loose metaphor for fame however he makes no effort to switch up the voices/characters in the lines which lend themselves to said metaphor

now compare that to rhyme or reason, which carries the same weight as drug ballad as a single track detailing nothing but marshall's uncontrollable need to rhyme in addition to double, triple, quadruple, 5x, 6+x entendres in every single line, others in each standalone verse and another handful in the message of the track itself. plus the three verses aren't even from the same perspective, AND rod argent said and I'm quoting here that he was incredibly impressed that marshall was able to hit every note perfectly while creating what felt like a 'waterfall of words' of his own. and to top it off right for me and phenomenal s--- on all of that. people saying 1999/2000 eminem could even dream of s--- like this are just plain delusional. he's gotten/getting better in every way with every release and I'll never stop believing that

You keep using some good songs as an example to make your case. He does have good songs, on all of his albums after his hiatus. But you can't just ignore the horrible songs that came along with them.

I can't believe you still maintain this. Believing he's not awful now is one thing, but actually believing he's a better rapper in 2015 than 1999-2003 is insane.

Anyway, I'd pick SSLP pretty easily. I can see why one would pick MMLP—it's a good mix of the cartooniness of SSLP and the personal s--- on TES, but I overall prefer the former, plus MMLP has songs I never want to listen to (Kim, Under the Influence) and SSLP doesn't. It's the only Eminem album I ever play front to back on occasion these days.

TES is overrated even though it has some of his best songs. Doesn't play that well as an album and has some atrocious songs. Even when I was a Stan I thought it was easily the worst of his three good albums.

The musicality of his work has suffered seriously on some songs though

Survival? Last verse of Legacy? Raw? Half of Encore? Most of Relapse? Won't Back Down? Just a few examples.. I disagree with people who say he's awful, but he is really hit or miss and really inconsistent. Which for me makes him average overal with some flashes of greatness, and a lot of low points

Improve his flow so he's not cramming syllables all over the place and rapping so it's hard to understand what he's saying. The choppy thing never really bothered me but the syllable cramming and difficulty in understanding what he is saying at times does.

first of all why do you people hate to be specific? second your issues with those songs are just your opinions and almost no one shares them
you keep using certain buzzwords over and over and i'm not sure you understand how flowing with an instrumental works

Em flows pretty well with instrumentals (for the most part) on his studio albums not these little side projects.

You were talking about him being mature, about his content.
    - Raw (last part of his verse)
    - Pigs flying out of my a---
    - Oink oink all you good for is doink doink doink
    - Whiping my butt, because I sh---ed on the mic
    - nobody handed me s--- not even a flyer (even tho I love the song)
    - done with this s--- so I may as well whipe

    Etc.

How are those things, among other lines, mature? Of course there are examples of good lines and good songs, but how can you ignore stuff like that?
