I believe The Warning is the last Eminem song where he actually sounded normal.
Relapse had the weird accents
Recovery/BME had a lot of yelling
And from MMLP2 up to Kamikaze his flow has been very inconsistent.
It's already been 10 years since The Warning and I believe it's the last time we've heard Em sound like he did back during The Eminem Show era.
Effortless delivery. No accents, no robotic voice or yelling.
What's up with his voice these days? Is it the way he produces/mixes his music? Putting aside his flow which has been terrible at times, his voice is also very different. Hard to explain. More raspy, robotic maybe?
I'm not saying he should try to replicate his old self. Every artists needs to evolve. But there are better ways to go at it then completely altering the way you rap.
Eminem's music in the last few years has been unbearable for me for this exact reason. I just can't get into his delivery and his voice.
The solution would be to stop forcing 1000 words in one line and just go on a beat and roll with it. No altering flow, stopping, yelling etc.. He has really lost touch of what sounds good on a record.

Nobody besides his hardcore fans noticed
Yeah there was a gap between solo studio albums and people were waiting on it, but certain songs from Encore and Curtain Call stretched for years after release. I heard Shake That, Mockingbird, and One Last Time in passing constantly up until late 2007. Far more than any Eminem song today.
The singles/guest appearances, mainly Smack That kept him out here. I remember The Re Up very well, you either liked it or you didnt. It felt like a new Eminem release to me though. Yeah, not full length album wise, but he was productive. The only time it felt like there was a glaring absence was mid 2008. By then you could really say that he was inactive for well over a year. But with his book and the eventual relapse announcement late that year it didnt matter
The “hiatus” was mostly a marketing campaign. By many other artists standards what he did was not a hiatus. Ironically the gap between MMLP2 and Revival actually felt excruciatingly longer to me. For 2015 he drops two singles and a sway freestyle. For almost all of 2016 he was dead silent and featureless. Drops Campaign Speech and then goes dead silent for literally another year until late December 2017 with the most horribly marketed album in his career.Last edited: Sep 5, 2019froboy6942, asvdawg, Ids5621 and 5 others like this. -

I have a snippet for you. Comes from my personal collection, received via trade. Just got permission from the other party to post this snippet from the track.
The Song is titled, My Name Is Marshall, and is from 1997. It was leftover from the Slim Shady EP and some lyrics were reused for My Name Is.

Nice fun “Eminem’s version” of a party song.
Going through the comments I’m glad I’m not seeing the typical:
“Why wasn’t he more lyrically! I miss the old Em” bs yet. Still early but, I’m glad it’s not see yet
Really wish he would just release “R2” under the narrative of being a mixtape so he (Paul) wouldn’t worry about sells so d--- much.Pearly Marshmallow, ThugLifer, Spatula and 5 others like this. -
