It would be really cool if Rey turns out to beObi Wan's daughter that would be a great curveball especially since a lot of people and the GA think she's either Han or Luke's kidBman, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and K18 El Duderino like this. -

1. f--- people who are into horrible s-----y films, why should you cater to that?
2. That said, nothing about this film suggests an intentional middle-finger to those three movies, other than the fact that it's actually really good.lil uzi vert stan, Guma and henzINNIT like this. -

They definitely borrowed a lot from ANH but it was necessary considering the direction they were trying to go in. They wanted to move the story forward but also distinguish themselves from the prequels. For the first movie, I cut them some slack for it. I expect the next episodes to steer away from the OG trilogy. Even though the movie seems to be setup to be a rehash of Empire with Luke being the new Yoda, Rey's family ties being revealed (like Vader revealing he's Luke's father), the First Order having a decisive victory (like the Empire being victorious in Empire). I hope I'm wrong about that. There are differences though. Kylo is not as tough as vader. Rey seems to be more powerful than Luke was at the same age. Finn seems to have already has "Carbonite" moment. I'll remain optimistic.eminemson, Fitzy and ObRav koffche like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I'm expecting a big reveal in the next one, which I don't think it's a big reveal. Rey is definitely a Skywalker or Solo. I'm leaning towards Skywalker.
I just find Kylo super f---ing interesting. I find him super dangerous because he's CLEARLY conflicted by both sides. And I really believe he has a soft spot for Rey, and he knew her at Luke's Academy, and hid her to save her from the Knights of Ren.
I can see Rey and Kylo switching roles, where Rey gets seduced by the darkside and Kylo is redeemed, or Kylo switches to the light, but then betrays them again because he's unstable. I also want to know what Han and Leia did wrong, because it totally fits that Han was probably a bad father lol.
Just so many possibilities. Episode 8 and 9 is where they need to take chances. This could be so great moving forward. -

Leia was really disappointing.
I did laugh when Leia and Han first meet, and f---ing C3PO comes out and starts talking. lol LOVED that.
Kylo Ren had some great f---ing one liners throughout the movie though, that people are skimming. "So, a droid stole the ship?" "Your soldiers have a knack for treason too"
I'm definitely paraphrasing, but I thought he was great.
4 out of 7 films deal with a Super Weapon though. I agree, enough with it. Let's explore the universe. Have more atmospheric battles, much like Maz Kanata's castle, or Hoth, or Endor (minus Ewoks).... Show different planets falling to the First Order.
I think they just played it super safe with the plot, but they wanted to try different characters, and it worked.
And, I really don't think Finn was as equal to Kylo as others are saying. Sure, he lasted, what, a minute? Before one of Kylo's cross guards was pushed into Finn's shoulder, then he was cut up his spine and put into a coma.
I mean, remember that Luke got in a couple of hits on Vader the first time they fought, and Luke HARDLY had the training or experience in lightsaber duels that Vader had.
It comes back to grounding the franchise. Sure, characters have the force, but it shouldn't make them inhuman or perfect in combat. Light sabers are dangerous weapons, and I like how every swing could lead to an injury. That's what made Star Wars so GREAT to me before.
I think, like you said, they're really distancing themselves from the prequels. Gone are the days where you can swing sabers around and not get struck so easily, as was different in the originals.ObRav koffche, Guma and threee like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

They are going for a different type of villain with Kylo.
The main thing is they want him to be unpredictable. I honestly think Kylo is going to be conflicted but extremely powerful as the series goes on, which makes him even more dangerous, in my eyes.
He was never supposed to be Vader. That's the point. He's unhinged, he's impulsive, he's damaged, way more than Vader ever was. He has flaws and deeper roots than Anakin did. Watch, he's going to be a way more interesting character than Villain.
Kylo was also injured before his fight with Finn/Rey, and was bleeding a ton. I think he's going to come back even stronger in 8. and I think he'll be even more unstable.
When I was reading the spoilers, it sounded like Kylo doesn't take off his mask until the light saber battle with Finn, and that they didn't reveal him being Han and Leia's son until Han gets stabbed with the light saber... I thought that would've been way better, but aw well.
I seriously believe Kylo is the type of character that will become crazy powerful, because he has clear motivation and the Skywalker genes to do so. He's been embarrassed, and I think that makes him even scarier for the next film. People keep saying Finn held his own, and Rey did too, but fail to realize Kylo got shot in the side right before that fight, and he still beat Finn.
He was also toying with Rey too, and wanted to bring her to the dark side. I don't think Kylo was actually trying to k--- her.
I look at it like, what the f--- did Han do to him? He seemed upset when he read Rey's mind and saw that she saw Han as a father figure. Why? He seemed like he hated Han. Was Han a bad father? Why does Kylo want to stay away from the Light? IDK, I just found it really interesting.
Also, like I said before, they did a New Hope 2, because this was a remake, to reintroduce the series. They played it safe, because of the "failure" of the prequels. Now, if they make Episode 8 too safely, I will DEFINITELY have a problem.
Also, it's unknown whether or not Finn is going to train as a Jedi. There was speculation that the reason that Finn resisted the ways of Storm Troppers is because the Force is strong within him, and it calls to him too. Finn was the character that I was most excited about, and I really hope they expand on him in the next film.Last edited: Dec 19, 2015Guma, asvdawg and Mike Tyson like this. -
